Well I like to wear thick socks and couldn't go any smaller in the OSBs if that's helpful. Probably couldn't comfortably use the same socks in the chukkas so I'd say the size difference is very very small. With this in mind I'd take the same size as the chukkas. Still havent worn my trench boots more than 15 times so probably haven't stretched out to their final size, but I did walk 6 km in them the first time I wore them without any trouble. Hope this helps!

      AIAN HA-TO!

resoled the IH x Oak Street shell cordovan with brass tokyo when i was in japan to commando sole as i'm not really a huge fan of the danite sole. great work by them. very happy with their workmanship..

Has anyone else had problems with the dainite sole on the trench boot? After a week of wear the sole at the tip of the shoe has started to come away from the leather. Contacted OSB and was told to take the boots to a local repair shop for gluing … after 1 week ... Not sure about the quality of the single stitch down, seems very flimsy.

thanks guys, i've always like the commando sole look. it definitely looks like new now..

@EJS i've never had that problem with the danite sole and stitching. for me it was more about the danite being rather slippery on oily floors in restaurants and such..

^^ No problems with my dainite soles on the Oak Streets … or generally (Trickers / Viberg / .. )

                      • but I think a good cobbler can fix this easily

Thanks for the replies, not had any problems with these type of soles on other boots either so I guess I've been unlucky with the trench boot.

Depending on how much it has started to come away, this isn't something you should worry about.

Been a while since I've posted on here.  I've received a pair of OSB Trench boots today in the natural CXL finish.  The fit, feel of the leather, style of the boot are just as I'd hoped.

I do have concerns though about the quality of the finish on one of the boots.  Reading back a few pages maybe there are some quality control issues with OSB?  I'd welcome your thoughts/comments.  I'll leave the photos to speak for themselves.

That definitely doesn't look great, I agree.  Looks like they had a trainee doing the welt on that boot.  Kinda surprised that made it through QC.  That said, I think the problem is cosmetic, not constructional.

The welt is cemented on, as well as stitched, so a loose stitch here and there shouldn't lead to any problems.  As for the gap in the welt inside the arch, they cut it a fraction short, which looks crappy, but isn't a serious issue, as long as it's securely sewed to the sole, which it looks like it is.

If the appearance bothers you, (and it would bug me, personally) you should contact Oak Street about it and give them a chance to do something.  If you were only worried about durability and don't care how it looks, I think you're probably safe.

Thanks Chris, I agree with your assessment.  The other boot looks perfect so just knowing that does bug me even if the boot is functionally sound.  I've sent photos to the shop in the UK I bought them from so will see what they say.  I did also email OSB and they came back fantastically quickly although the response did not agree with my assessment.  They explained the boots are good in their opinion which does make me question their quality control.

Just wanted to update this as I've had further communication with OSB and they have agreed that on closer inspection the stitching although not compromising the integrity of the boot is not up to their own aesthetic standards.  They have kindly offered to exchange the boots for another pair if I'm unable to get an exchange through the store I bought them from.  Great service, I feel a lot happier.
