I hate the phrase "pull the trigger" for anything that doesn't involve an actual trigger.
I hate the phrase "life hack", or for that matter, the use of "hack" for anything other than cutting aggressively, computer coding, or describing watch second hands.
I hate the use of feminine pronouns to describe inanimate objects.  Yes, I know it's common in other languages, but in English, it's creepy when you go around calling your jacket "her" or "she".

And, yes, I've seen this video; I even agree with it on a philosophical level.

                Nevertheless…

The imperialist American encroachment on the English language - in England!

I frequently have to pull my children up on the use of 'guys' and 'movie'. It's fellas, gents, people, boys and girls, anything but the anodyne, generic 'guys' - still makes me cringe. The other one is of course, film.

I've even heard them use 'candy' and 'trash' FFS! It's sweets and rubbish, you're not in Modern Family or The Brady Bunch. There are probably more but I don't want to think about them.

They do appreciate that if they ever call football 'soccer' (yes I know it originally stemmed from toffs in England) they can find a new home, or a new (less intolerant) dad.

^  Speaking for myself, of course. Unbalanced? That's a nice way to say it. Lacking in social skills? Cram it. Soccer? I like the 30 second shorts that show the goals. Men wearing bright yellow shirts that read BIMBO? It's a mystery.

So it would have been allowed to say "hey, let's pull the trigger and hang out in San Antonio next weekend"? 😉

It kills me too. So, so bad.

There's a load of language on this site I don't get, but is repeated endlessly. 'Nice cop' and 'on point' to name a couple more. I also don't get the Americanisms - when did Autumn on an English forum become 'fall'?
People also seem to be desperate to tell someone something is a 'great fit' too, even when a picture is out of focus, dark or they could probably do with swapping for a different size.

Early night for me, I think.

Since I know that you would, in fact, be armed, yes.

And while I'm whinging about language, why do so many people not understand the difference between plural and possessive?  It's easy- add s for plural, apostrophe s for possessive.

Haha. Judging by the last few posts, this is definitely going to be an unpopular opinion: I like "pull the trigger" and I use it regularly. I find it implies a lot about deliberation, hesitation, and eventual decision-making for a simple three word phrase.

Given the general American relationship with triggers, I'd say it implies the exact opposite…

I understand your point, but I don't think anyone says "I finally pulled the trigger" on a purchase, for example, to imply that they are recklessly and thoughtlessly making a decision. I think the phrase has been around long enough so that the original intention has not been supplanted by some other meaning related to the obvious gun control issues in the country.
