Is this to be expected with the super black material?
It's the first time I have seen it in the 8 or 9 years we have been making it. But yes, exposed to enough UV, it'll do this.
…also on a side note, the measurements for the chest seem a bit off on the product page.

@Giles @Shovelhead_Chris This would definitely fix the jacket. http://www.dharmatrading.com/dyes/dharma-fiber-reactive-procion-dyes.html?lnav=dyes.html Go for the jet black. It's the blackest dye ever. Be careful to do this with old clothes and somewhere where you won't ruin everything with dye!
Get some soda ash and add it after the vest has soaked for an hour in the hot dye. Then soak it for another hour.

@Bluegrass thanks for the motivation. I got mine out for the first time today. Bought it in the summer but not worn it yet, thanks in no small part to my wife's reaction to it! Decided to keep the vest (and the wife), and your post made me decide "today is the day".
