Watches - another OCD problem
-
@Tempvs what's the watch on the left? It looks a bit like something Romain Jerome would do, but the A logo suggests it isn't. I've been scratching my head over that one, as it's a cool piece.
There's an IWC Ingenieur with a boron carbide case up for grabs in the Only Watch auction. I'm a fan of titanium too, but that might be able to take a bit more abuse…
And a piece on chronometry has been posted to aBlogToWatch, namely why isn't accuracy a selling point for watches?

I certainly am of the view that tourbillions exist to show off your wealth, rather than performing any useful function.

Pretty sure that's an Armin Strom.

Thanks @Tempvs. That explains why I've never heard of it, and why I thought it looked like a Romain Jerome.
Hodinkee have a bunch of pictures and a feature on the Tudor Heritage Black Bay for Only Watch. Since everyone seems to be a fan of the brand, I thought that I'd post details.

It even comes with two straps and a bracelet.
My suspicion is that:
-
It's going to go for an awful lot of money.
-
It'll spend its life living in a safe.
-
Tudor would be mad not to put it into series production.
Go on Tempvs, you know you want to…

I read about that. It's a far nicer piece than the Tudor.
I'm not jealous. Honest.

Nothing as exciting as a Peter Richards, and not a one-off, but Hodinkee have a hands on with the Tudor North Flag.

Random watch related rant!
Just over a year ago I put down a deposit on a Jaeger LeCoultre Geophysic in stainless steel with the boutique on Bond Street. The watch turned up at a time that payment for some work was being slow in arriving, and so I said I'd take the next one that came in.
I didn't hear anything back from them, and moved out to Australia. Last I heard, the watch had sold out.
I've been chasing the deposit for a few days, as the sales staff I speak to have been complete feckwits.
Today I call up Mappin & Webb at 1 Old Bond Street, who used to have the JLC concession, and am told that all the accounts were handed over to Watches of Switzerland at 155 Regent Street. Fine, so I try there, and am told that the new JLC boutique at 13 Old Bond Street is co-owned by Aurum (the parent group of Mappin & Webb and Watches of Switzerland), and employs the same staff as I dealt with.
I've already spoken to them, but I decide to try again, and they point me back to 155 Regent Street.
I'm beginning to think that the only way to get any sense out of anybody is going to be to fly out to London and engaging in a line of inquiry that involves a baseball bat…
