I like everything about it, except the center backseam.

^agreed with the back view … a small points deduction in my eyes ..

Whatever - I made my decision concerning 'new leather stuff  😉

I kinda like the back, looks typical of many a 'genuine' motorcycle jackets (perhaps more modern period than the J100?)… The shoulder pleats add to that same effect IMO. You know it's going to be cut to be a functional jacket, in typical IH fashion  😉

My personal push-backs are: sizing (opening and waist likely to be too wide in on me like most IH tops  >:() and on a purely personal-preference/cosmetic front, the leather dye (I just need my next jacket to be dyed-through leather).

That said, whomever has the money to spend and can make the sizing work would be a real lucky boy/gal IMO  😉
Keen to know & see more about this jacket........

More info on the Tannery.  It is in Himeji which is famous for it's tanneries (Shinki, being perhaps the largest).  The tannery we use is a tiny one (much like the tiny mills we use for weaving) and we believe the veg tanned horse that it produces is second to none and that includes Shinki…

What are you doing to me Giles? I just bought the J100, now this appears….. Scribbles on the back of an envelope and tries to juggle finances to justify buying both... despairs and just settles for waiting for my J100 to arrive

Ya or Nay is it silly to own this jacket when you don't ride a bike?

Do you need a jacket?  Do you like this one?  If yes, then it's not silly.

We wear all kinds of items that aren't being used for their original purpose- dive watches, engineer boots, baseball caps, etc.  This is no different.

It gives you an excuse to get a bike. 🙂

Actually I'd go and talk to someone like BKS Leather for riding gear. Something like the IHJ-35 would count more as a fashion jacket in my book.

Who is making these jackets? The style and the leather is fantastic.

PS – will they be available in a US size "48" (pit to pit 24")?
