No, that's fine. I enjoy discussing the finer points of this stuff. That's why I wanted to clarify some of the buzz-words that get thrown around so much. One term that gets thrown around a lot is "Bridle Leather" by Filson. I didn't add this to my website because it's not relevant to my products, but it still bugs the crap out of me. I bought one of their briefcases a few years back and the quality of the leather was dismal at best. Bridle Leather is top quality leather used where something strong and durable is needed that also needs to look nice. It's veg-tanned with a waxy finish….. Filson called their corrected grain leather "Bridle Leather" and I was pretty upset that I paid so much for a sub-par product. It's a good thing they have a good return policy 🙂

Filson's leather has changed IMO. I look at the trim of my newer field bag as compared to my old field bag and they feel different. The new leather feels dryer and much less rich. My old bag developed a very nice patina, the new letter looks like it is cracking. I looked very hard at their leather briefcase, but did not buy it because it is so sloppy. Not to mention that within a month it almost doubled in price when Filson was bought out.

Exactly. I saw a friend's old Filson briefcase and I fell in love with the leather. It was stunning. Not the case when I received mine in the mail. It's such a shame when that happens. Let me know if you ever want a legit leather briefcase 🙂

You got it brother! I am currently using a hand made 1960's repro I bought from Tanners Alley in West Virginia, but will probably be in contact with you next year when I pay off next summer's vacation.

I got a massive order yesterday from Horween; 40+ lbs of leather in a giant box.

Since I used the entire side of Rio Latigo for my briefcase (and then some), I needed to restock my supply. So, I got more Rio and a stunning dark brown Latigo as well. I received a couple of interesting colors that I've never really seen before. Chestnut and Cognac in "Dublin" which is the waxed version of the "Essex" leather. It's fantastic looking and feels incredible.

I'm also very well restocked on Natural Chromexcel Single Horse Fronts which has been the most popular color for wallets this past year for me. It's proving to be an extremely versatile color to work with, and my personal wallet is aging splendidly (I'll get some pics up later).

Some things I got just for fun are Color 8 Shell Cordovan and Black Shell Cordovan for wallets and other small items, and a 9/10oz (THICK) Natural Chromexcel which will be great for belts!

Here's all of my new leather:

And here's the Chestnut Dublin (which is dying to be made into a duffel, a dopp kit, or something similar):
