Today was a very quiet day for us today. I'd assumed it would rain so had built an extra day into our trip. After realizing we'd be going out pretty hard for 13 days straight we accepted the quiet day. I hit the streets as the sun was starting to set just to take some photos of local life (and some of my fav vending store signs). Tomorrow it's off to Kyoto, hopefully well rested where we start again.

I also popped in for a 3d model today. Turns out that through lots of confusion and explaining, they could not produce one in a few hours, rather it would take 2 weeks to complete and they would not send overseas. A bit of a disappointment. They were willing to do a head shot - which I accepted, which should be sent to me in Tokyo next week, hopefully. I've found a full body guy in Tokyo who's said he'll take 3 weeks and send to Australia, so fingers crossed that one works out. I first came across the 3d models in 2012 when we were in Tokyo, but found that there were no scanning sessions left, and it was booked out 3-4 weeks in advance (we had 2 days left in Japan). So yeah, good to make a start today, and will progress with the weirdness next week hopefully….

…and we're in Kyoto. In a hotel, unlike last time here where we stayed in a traditional Ryokan. Rainy season has officially started, hoping for a few dry days in the next few (it should work out). Armed with a brolly we headed out to the bamboo forest. (Photos shot on the iPhone; my Leica needs 2 hands to operate- something I can't do whilst operating a brolly.)

It's different for sure. I like things that are a bit out there. Add something that blends tech and weirdness and it's totally me 🙂

Thanks Gav (and @Black Orchid ). It's a really beautiful place. Very nice contrast from Hiroshima too. Last time we were here all we saw were temples. Looking forward to seeing it as a city. It's got such age and history around nearly every corner.

Amazing pics as always! @Snowy … Kyoto is also one of my favourite targets, when I visit this beautiful country sometime. (I hope so)

The idea with the 3D-model ... great  😉  ... Kudos!

Another bucket-list day today, thankfully, no bucketing rain. Fushimi Inari-taisha was the destination and objectives were to hike to the top AND get a photo of the crazy gates without ANYONE else in the shot - a harder task than it sounds. About a 12KM walk from the 1st gate to the top of the mountain and back down again. REALLY REALLY beautiful. I don't use the word blessed often, but if I were to, today would have been the day. After a brief freshen up back in the hotel, we stumbled around Teramachi Street for the rest of the afternoon.

Thanks @Finkster. Highly suggest you get to Kyoto, skip the Ryokans stay @ a nice hotel for a few days, and go see some crazy sights. A combination of ancient world, and utterly modern a stone's throw a part is just amazing.

That's my intention … a nice mix of cultural history and the modern urban life - Tokyo, Kyoto, Nagoya, .. for the beginning.  🙂
I was several times in Thailand and Hongkong - but Japan is a long unrealized dream on my traveling list. (It's a very expensive adventure for Europeans ^^)

iPhone pictures today only, but not due to the rain. We climbed the world's longest span bridge(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akashi_Kaikyō_Bridge). To climb the bridge everything needed to be strapped on/in securely. On top of that, the 2km round trip + 300 meter ascension. I could have made the Leica work, but wasn't sure of Wind and Salt levels, so didn't risk it. The iPhone's ended up in plastic sleeves, and at the time I also thought they'd do the same to my Leica (meaning no Range Finding). Was a great experience, but not overly photoy all in all….and I have a fear of heights, which doesn't help either ;).
