hmm just nice this came up. i've been using admiral pomade and mostly uppercut deluxe. but i want more variation as to other pomades i may try? i do prefer something of the water based strong hold types, the only reason why i'm using those two is because i absolutely love the coconut smell.

I used admiral before but have started to use the iron society now. I find it holds better but the smell is more cinnamon-y.

Tossed in a dab of NuNile with the royal crown for the overnight at work. Bumped up the hold a bit, which I needed, whilst remaining quite soft and workable. Will be interested to see if the Sweet Georgia requires similar but blending them is easy enough….

As an update, this grease combo is working perfectly for me. Holds great, nice shine, and transference isn't too bad. @TrickHell mentioned hair tonics for off shower days, any relevant info would be appreciated as I have no experience here. Benefits? Brands? Etc

One more…looking for a good comb. Something stainless steel or equally durable is preferable. Found a few through Chicago comb company, but not familiar with them. Recommended?? Any others??

Thanks G, hadn't searched too deep yet, the comment came from a lack at my normal sources. Have since found a few, but some of these look nicer.

After searching the Izola fine & dandy combs pictured in the link G provided, it seems those are simply brass plated. This spurred a deeper search and while I can't seem to find a ready made solid brass comb, I did come across someone that makes custom metal combs. The company is Metal Comb Works, to which I've inquired about this one off. Will update once I have details to share

I would say the pros of straight and double edge ( DE ) razors outweigh regular Gillette cartridge type razors.

Using a DE or straight set up can really help eliminate ingrowing hairs. Cartridge razors gave me very bad razor burn and ingrown hairs. This is the reason I moved to shaving with a DE razor and then progressing on to the straight.

Learning a proper shave technique including preparation is where you get most benefit, whether this be with a DE or straight razor.

Picked up some new shave cream and aftershave balm from a small German company called Tabula Rasa.  Their products have picked up a bit of a cult status across the shave forums, excellent products but difficult to find.  They now have a UK importer so I picked up some of the "Shave Punk" scented cream.

Very impressed by it, proper manly ( Grrrrrr!! ) smell, no hints of anything floral in this scent, wood notes and spices involved here.

The cream is almost like a mousse in consistency.  A hazel nut size piece of cream worked into the end of your shave brush is all you need, I have been using a shave bowl to work the cream into a lather before applying.

Definitely worth checking out if you are looking for a new shave cream.
