Quite like the idea of an international flight for a refund, just to mess with his head

            @Giles:

In the UK the retailer is 100% responsible if he sells faulty goods and the law obliges him to make a full refund, if that is what the consumer wants.

Anyone know what the law is in the US (Oregon to be specific).

Unless there is some type of fraud by the retailer, there aren't any state or federal regulations on this type of issue.  That means normal contract law should apply here.  If I remember correctly, you bought the boots via internet, rather than in person.  I'm pretty sure the law requires the seller to have their general terms and conditions posted somewhere on the website.  By purchasing the boots, you agreed to those terms, whether you realized it or not.  Unfortunately for you and most other customers, retailers usually fill terms & conditions with a lot of vague wording to give themselves wiggle room.  This retailer probably has the option of refunding either cash or credit at its discretion.

If they won't budge on the cash refund, I would suggest that you take the credit, but have them make it fully transferable, so that you can sell the credit to someone else.  Make sure the retailer verifies, in writing, that they will honor the credit if another person uses it.  Not a perfect solution, but it might be the best of bad options.

Naturally, my advice is general; additional facts may change any or all of what I just told you. 😉

            Hope this helps

            Chris

EDIT: tried to improve clarity, but probably didn't actually make it any better

Who is the retailer?  Name and shame here please!

That is so not cool.  Just my $0.02, perhaps tell the retailer that you insist on a refund or else file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and see if he's gonna budge.

hi, i want to buy a pair of alden roy boots but i can't try them on first, so can anyone give me some size guidance. i just bought a pair of clarks desert boots in a uk 10.5 and they fit perfectly. what size would that equate to in the roys?

I see that the fashion wears out more apparel than the man.

B, my Clarks are a US11 and my Roy Boots are a US11D. Go with the same size as I do… 11!

I don't know if this is any help or not, but I found this site the other day that seems to have a detailed piece on how to measure your feet.  It looks like it might be suitable for the Alden's:

                                        I'm a 7.5 US in Clarks and a 7 in Aldens.

Half a size down is pretty much accurate

                                          hi guys,

i have been a long time lurker but this is my first post on here and i thought i would make it in the prestigious alden thread!

loving all the various discussions (and most importantly the pictures) so far but what i wanted to ask is this;  for all you guys who are from the uk or europe and own aldens, is there a preferred store or method for acquiring them?  eg, what is the cheapest and most reliable place to buy from?

do i order from the us and hope the tax man goes easy on me, or do i buy from the bureau and pay over the odds?  without tax a pair from blackbird saves me over £80.

sorry if this has been discussed before but any help anyone can offer will be great,

                                          many thanks

                                          percy
