I think it totally depends on application. For those urban soldiers like myself dainite is fine. It's discreet and has more traction than a leather sole. On icy days no vibram or anything else is actually going to save you. I prefer a flatter sole on icy ground because I feel like I have more control. If you're actually tromping through snow and mud with your Viberg's then why are we even having this conversation? (I ask this rhetorically to no one in particular). Vibergs are the ultimate blend between work and fashion boot. Those of you doing actually physical outdoor work in them should obviously buy commando soles, etc. I would be willing to bet you're a minority in terms of the General Viberg demographic…

I guess living in a desert has been the key. With the exception of today, rain is very rare.

my experiences with dainite are also less than stellar. I have two pairs of boots with those soles which I will definitely change when a resole is coming up. These things are super slippery.
Even though I have different pairs in rotation I manage to wear through the soles quite often. Concrete is a bitch for any kind of sole. Do you reckon that a metal plate at the shoe tips will avoid excessive wear around that region?

My Vibergs, neither of them are fashion boots or used as such. I generally spend more on casual shit that I wreck than I do on formal/semiformal / business casual / dressy stuff.  If I ever go there I will use something with a tread pattern that offers value. I do like those cork soles that I think a recent Boondocker build had. I really enjoy heel / half sole builds too, I'd like to see some service boots with that.

          Think it, be it.

I think the boodockers with raw cord soles will be dope.

^ I'm definitely going that route when I resole my Boonies. I've been watching the boxset of The Pacific lately and want that raw cord sole more than ever now.

@Winchy's IH 1950 Service boots arrived whilst I was AFK. Picked them up last night and have put them on now @ 940pm 75f/24c. No heel slip, bit of movement when flexing the foot. Feels like love baby!

Are they the SZ jeans Chris? Just saw the coloured weft shining through.

I'm not sure about the leather- they're a MTO pair from 2012.  All I know is that they're Loden Green.  Over the last couple of years, the green has worn in to more of an olive, so they've gotten a more mottled look to them now.

And yeah, Mega, the jeans are the SZ Forest.

4k walk in the city today. Feeling bullet proof, no pain or slippage at all. Easiest boots I'ver ever had. Lots of room in the boot for my toes, thanks to the E. Thanks again Mr Winch!

Sorry if this was discussed already but looking at the pricing of these exceptional boots I'm interested in the Sample Sale mentioned before.  🙂 Would be great if anybody of the experts here could share some insights.

How wide is the range of the discounted boots and sizes? How many items of a certain models and sizes are usually being discounted? Do I have to be very lucky to get something in particular?

Are the samples slightly damaged or are these just regular items?

Does anybody already know when the next sample sale is?

^must have a quick trigger finger it's the quick or the dead. Samples are more readily available in sizes less than 10.5. From my understanding they are always in excellent conditions. Prices usually are $200 less than retail prices.

I've seen some janky shit released in the sample sales. Look very closely before you buy. Great opportunity to get Vibergs on the cheap, but caveat emptor.

@mental floss, I had good luck with the sample sale.  I did a lot of research before and knew what I wanted.  Sizing, lasts, leathers and soles.  When I saw a boot that had 3 out of the 4 I jumped.  I hit send on the email before the pics had finished loading.  A definite gamble, but they went extremely quick.

I haven't seen anything, is another sample sale planned?

                                        Thanks @derivative666 @mclaincausey @summ3rhays !

And are there rather slow sellers on sale or also popular stuff? I'm on the fence e.g. for the Boondocker or the Service Boot Smoke Reverse Kudu which both might be popular enough to get off the shelves for regular prices…

Is there a sample sale on a regular basis anyway?

Sorry for asking noob questions but I just want to get a better understanding if it's worth waiting or if it's even necessary to hurry up before they are sold out in regular shops (similar to certain IH products).

Never apologize for asking questions, we love to help people on here.

Sample sales seem to occur randomly but in clusters. So, they'll announce they have a few coming up, and then they'll announce the few, and then they'll occur, and in some cases you get jammed up by their Web site not being able to handle the traffic. It's tough, Viberg is so popular now. The best way to know about them is to track online forums like this one or "the horse's mouth," Viberg's Instagram feed. Even if you're Johnny On the Spot you might still get iced out with or without the web site working properly under scale.

                                          Think it, be it.
