Usually hit Mega-Bev or Horrocks, as they have largest selection. No link for Horrocks though, but I can check there too.

        Yes, that is something special!
Salivation… only by looking at this sparkling glass.
        And the taste?

So I received a St. Bernardus gift set recently from a friend as I'd been down in the dumps something fierce lately.

I've got to say, as a guy who's been around the world and sampled some of the rarest and highest rated beers out there, these staple brews from St. B are obnoxiously impressive. I started with the 6 and some Vivaldi and I'm now on the 8. The transition is flawless. A lot of brewers lose themselves in high ABV and forget or are too inexperienced to pay attention to the balance of flavor. The 8 takes the 6's belgian strong ale and turns it ever so slightly up several notches. I really think these beers were intended to follow one another in a single night.

I'll also add that with the provided glass (who's quality was SORELY unbefitting of the vessel of such great beer) i achieved a perfect pour on the 8!

The St Berny ABT12 is one of my favourite all time brews, and the Christmas Ale takes it up a notch even further imo. It is possibly my favourite all time beer.

The St Bernardus glass is obnoxious… I drink mine out of a sturdy Westvleteren glass  ::)

Mega: the Westvleteren XII is another step up quality-wise from the Abt12... So let me know what you think...

So I got that as an "extra" in my trade with a Yank for some Westy XII… I like this about one million times better than I do the XII...

The only thing that bothers me, reàlly bothers me, is that Goose Island is owned by Inbev...  😠 😠 😠

Well….that was expensive. Managed to procure a 4pk of KBS (1 earmarked for a Belgian), ordered some Cereal Killer, and found a couple nice surprises. I can think of worse ways to spend a couple hours and $100.

My first ever bottle of what many believe to be the finest beer ever made, the Westvleteren 12. This was worth documenting with pictures.

It's good, in fact it's very good. I would say slightly better than the R10 or the Berny 12 or even Pannepot (which is a huge favourite of mine and the Belgian bitch). I'm a huge fan of dark beers with big and complex tastes so this is right up my alley, I have to say though that Stille Nacht and the Berny Xmas Ale are still higher on my list than the Westy, they just have something a little special about them…...or maybe I'm just a sucker for the festive season.

I'll tell you (and y'all) why I love the Pannepot better… Cause you get a fresh bottle, you don't have to cellar it, and it's downright freakin amazing from the get go... The R10, Abt12, and XII?.. Nope: the fresh ones need a couple of years to reach their peak... They're GREAT beers, but they're released way too quickly because they have to...

And maybe, just maybe, these beers get such high scores because they're either easily available or are very hyped due to not being available (WXII)… From what I've experienced, some locally brewn beers that are harder to come by, are much better but don't get the high ratings on sites such as RateBeer cause they're extremely limited or unknown // not hyped...

In short: I refuse to make sense on this warm Sunday evening, and I will go on and drink beers I deem to be much better than Belgium's "finest product", the XII...

I'm going to follow the Westy up with a Pannepot (mistake?) to see how it fares whilst fresh on the tastebuds, will report back afterwards.
