My 20 dollar light has three modes, no strobe (preferred), and uses a AAA battery. Not as well built but smaller. I had a Novatac which was the precursor to HDS, same designer. Great light. Still running today, seven years later

        @mclaincausey:

You've got an Elzetta for your shottie IIRC right Doug? I think that was the one they dropped out of a fucking heli and it still worked.

While I'm a firm believer in EDC laws, I'm not convinced they reduce violence. I simply don't give criminals enough credit for forethought to figure "he might have a gun" into their activities.

I now use the Elzetta as my "walking the dog light". It makes the front of my shotgun too heavy. I use a dedicated weapon light on the front of my shotgun now (Inforce WML)

I'm not quite following your line of thinking. If someone is chasing my wife down the street and she pulls her gun on him, there is no violent crime perpetrated…and whether or not he's dead or in in jail, it saves society from the next victim since violent offenders tend to do it more than once

My one regret about the HDS is that it has kind of a flood pattern. It's great for area lighting, which in the end may be more practical for me, but a tighter beam with more throw was kind of what I was expecting.

          Think it, be it.

There's plenty of scenarios like that that can serve both sides of the argument, but what matters is a proven causal link, and I'm unaware of one. There's debate both ways but I've seen nothing that convinced me.

In your case of a crime being initiated or attempted and someone pulling a gun in defense in such a way as to not get shot themselves, possibly with said gun, yes that makes sense. What about a scenario where a gun is turned against you, or a bystander shot, or a gun bought for EDC is misused in a crime of passion, etc… Point being, a number of these hypothetical scenarios occur, and how does one know how they average out? So I don't think of that as a proof, even if it serves as a good rationale to EDC in places where it's legal.

Liberal crime ridden urban centers are the kinds of places more likely to react to violent crime with tighter gun laws, so I'd say that could easily skew things too; there's a chicken and egg question.

            Think it, be it.

I'm the opposite of this. I vastly prefer a flood pattern. Seeing 100 yards ahead is less important than peripheral view for me. Additionally, a really bright hot spot tends to lead to bounce back that will blind me

I cannot recommend the Elzetta enough for a number of different applications. It didn't work out for me on the shotgun, mainly because I got the heavy barreled version and it's already front heavy as it is, but it's a great backpacking light. It's big for an EDC (until the Alpha comes out) but it works for me when I'm walking the dog at night and I really don't have anything in my pockets anyway

Also, the nice thing about the Elzettas is that you can change it from a two cell to a three cell, or from a focused beam to a flood beam, by just changing out a couple parts that cost less than $100. Hell, the lens to change from a flood to focused and vice versa is only $20

Yeah I kind of have reached the same conclusion over time, it just wasn't what I expected. I'll have to check out the Alpha too. I actually use mine for everything from carry to camping. I have one of those tiny keychain lights so I don't always carry it. Glad to hear your predecessor has been good to you.

Ok, fair enough. I think the most scientific study (and really, social science is dodgy as it is) (apologies if you're a social scientist) I've seen was the one the CDC did a year or two ago that showed there is no direct relationship between the number of guns the amount of gun deaths (or something like that, basically, they couldn't show a causal relationship between the two)

Before the lights were made in bulk overseas, they were some of the best flashlights I had seen, and I used to have a good collection of Surefires at home

The only reason why I changed it up is because 30 mins with 120 lumens is just not enough by todays standards.

But honestly, up until a few years ago, I still used it for food manufacturer inspections. Never skipped a beat, except for that shitty battery life. Technology moved on

I am still on my first battery. I've been surprised.

This is going to blow everything else out of the market

Additionally, the guy in the owner (in the video) answers the phones and replies to emails himself, and he's a SUPER nice guy. Personally, I feel compelled to support small businesses like this

Agreed. High low crennelated flood sounds nice. Thing is tiny!

Don't like crenelated. Tears up my clothes and I don't see it being proportionately advantageous to a normal head if I'm beating someone with my flashlight
