I got some rum for my boss (belated Xmas gift) and some Martin Miller's gin, which I'm drinking now before I jump into some tequila (they only had a reposado Mezcal and some gutter bottom shelf bullshit, and I prefer my mezcal unaged and not shitty).

      Think it, be it.

Courvosier is under Jack Daniels, which occupies the top shelf. I am flummoxed by their shelving / organization.

              Alphabetical?  Bourbon comes before Courvosier?

Typically the way that spirits are arranged, at least in the States, is top to bottom by quality, left to right be variety. So Jack Daniels would never occupy the top shelf, and courvoisier would be on a shelf in the other cognacs.

I was hoping coming from you I'd get a Slash reference, but that was pretty great too.

Not to get too deep, but tax rates and import fees set on certain products via free trade agreements are your culprit, no doubt. The only thing one can ferret from nation to nation anymore is currencies, and you better have enough to make it worth the trouble.

Gotta say, really enjoying the Buffalo Trace that Mclain suggested. Pretty smooth, kinda reminds me of some straight sour mash without the flashbacks. For a guy that likes bourbon neat and clean, it's not at all bad. Thanks again brother.

My pleasure, I am very happy to hear it. I am a huge Buffalo Trace Distillery fan and advocate. If you want to try a nice rye, if you see Sazerac around it's brilliant. It was hard to find for a while but should be available a bit more readily at a reasonable price point. It is a 6 year aged rye that is quite classic, spicy and very nice.

In fact, the Sazerac Company of New Orleans owns Buffalo Trace. Trace also makes a number of "antique collection" bourbons and ryes that are among the best available. They also are responsible for all the famed Pappy Van Winkle line. Best whiskey distillery by far in the US IMO.

The good thing about Buffalo Trace is that it's so damn delicious but it doesn't break the bank. It's usually in the same price range as Maker's Mark and a better spirit IMO.

                                        Have a look: https://www.buffalotracedistillery.com/brands/buffalo-trace

Every damn one of those brands is excellent.

They're new on the block and have an interesting story and method. Very clean. Best enjoyed neat.

They're only distributed in a few states, right now, but definitely worth the purchase if you stumble across it.
