Gulp… $910 +$25 S&H for U.S. delivery. http://viberg.com/collections/footwear/products/engineer-black-horsehide  It's the 2005 last, soft toe.  Sizing for me is Red Wings minus 1.0 or White's minus .5 (i.e. I wear White's 12.5 US, these are 12 UK) - fit is perfect. I am very happy with these boots, so impressed.

Awesome pickup, Bluegrass. Can't wait to see how these age. That Shinki horsehide is going to look amazing with wear!

Thanks man, I like those service boots too, but I'd been hunting for the perfect pair of black engineers.  Wore these all day today - really nice/comfortable in the footbed, but tops of shaft are rubbing the back of my calves - I'll have to get some 1970s tube socks!  These will be tough to break in, but it will be worth it. I was comparing these to my Road Champs side by side, and the RCs looked like baby shoes. Much thinner, softer leather.  These are serious boots.

Try Gold Toe over the calf socks.  They do a good job protecting my legs for all my boots, even the ones with 14" tops.

I have a problem keeping my socks up with engineer boots. I feel like the top of the boot pulls my socks down as I'm walking and then the sock just bunches up in the shaft of the boot. I've been folding my socks over the top of my rough out Wesco Boss boots. Maybe I should try Gold Toe.

Red Wing makes awesome boots for socks if you're looking for cotton. I'd be shocked if they didn't stay up.

^Haha! I'll give them a try. Wesco makes some socks too. I might order some next time I place an order from them.

I've heard good things about Red Wing's socks - my buddy who is a slob says he wears them for days at a time and they never fall down!

^  I've got a bunch of Red Wing socks and can personally vouch that they are great for wearing with boots and don't fall down.
