Seeing as this is the photography thread, most of the GR photos posted, to me (color correct Apple Cinema Display) appear overly contrasted/blown, regardless of the ISO shot at. Chuck's photos nearly all seem to be heavily vignetted, which IMO is also not a great look.

Not sure if there's any post-processing going on or not. None of the photos in this thread make me think of dropping $800 on this camera. I'd rather get an iPhone and process on that. Near the same level of clarity, certainly as portable.

For the near the price point & M4/3 format the Panasonic GX7 would be where my money is.

              gets off his high horse.

@Snowy the photos are supposed to be extremely high contrast.  You either like that style or you don't. I personally always have. If you like high contrast b&w check out the work of Daido Moriyama he is a famous Ricoh photographer. Btw I am sure that most of the people in this thread have their monitors color corrected.

@Snowy: I shoot RAW and do post-processing with the in camera processor. For fitpics and my flickr, I like to use the effects. Cross is my favorite and all the vignetting and the high contrast is post processed.
This one is straight out the camera JPEG.

I never saw this richness of detail and sharpness on a compact camera, and this is what the GR is.
I absolutely love your pics, but I won´t carry a DSLR all the time. The GR is a niche product, and by the size only the Nikon Coolpix A is in the same league, which is more expensive.
A GX7 never would fit in your chestpocket or the frontpocket of your jeans.
IMO…if you want the smallest sized body, with the biggest sensor and the best image quality, you have to get the GR.

Chuck, that explains A LOT - thank you! I thought you were showing 'out of the camera' shots from the camera. Even D666's comments that it's a unique look had me thinking as such.

I agree that DSLR's aren't always perfect. I personally bought an iPhone 5s for my pocket camera, Mobile internet + GPS +fairly to very good general photos in a most common situations won that. I also agree with you that there is a gap between the 5s and the M4/3rds - that is some lovely tones and bokeh. The lighting in that shot is what most gets me (positively. Really really well lit but no hard/soft spots)

I've on/off lusted over the M8/M9 for years, but always balk at the rangefinder concept….

I did ;). All comments remain the same. I lump M4/3 and APSC together in high quality portable #mybad.

I had a M8 and although I feel Leica makes the best glass in the world I feel the bodies are subpar.

My GR's lowlight capabilities are light years ahead of the M8's the noise I get at 3200 looks more like film grain the M8 had at 640 ISO.

Yeah Leica's software doesn't seem to have managed to keep up with it's glass/hardware. I hope they can nail it over the next few years. I really would like to own a 'life long' camera (body) at some point in my life. I've been trading bodies (and systems :o ) since I was in high school.

Leica have the reputation of the film life long camera, part of the lust/attraction :).

                                            Hey camera people.

I'm getting a tripod for Christmas…and I don't have a job yet for after I graduate, so I'm gonna try and learn a bit about photography. (no...i'm not gonna try and do anything professionally....I think thats silly for amateurs)

I took a photography class in middle school and learned all about aperture, f-stop, etc, but i've forgotten most/all of it. Also, that was all on film SLR.

Long story short, I'm looking for a few resources that might be a good primer for me to learn how to shoot on something other than auto. I'm probably gonna dabble in both macro and landscape shots, so some resource with some variety would be good too. I've got a Canon t3i with an 18-55mm lens.

                                            All suggestions welcome
