Well now I have more grease en route to my house than an orgy at Studio 54…  Thanks y'all.

I hope a wash and lube will get the detent back to where it was.  I can still flip but it lost some of its smoothness, almost feels and sounds like a really fine, flour-like grit is in the detent housing.

      Think it, be it.

After you rinse it out blow out the excess water with an air can if you have one, then lube it up. Should
be good to go then. 😉

Thanks Doug, I see it too but I'm usually out to get something else and pass it up. Saw one about two
weeks ago, should have bought it but I went for a Strider WP with a Trisula/Telsa grind instead.

That's one of the things that happens with IKBS. The little ball bearings are held in place with grease. Grease attracts dirt. I have a couple IKBS knives from CRKT, and they do get gritty once in awhile

Don't know if you want to do this, but taking apart the knife, get all the little ball bearings into a mason jar, and dousing it with Gunscrubber will get rid of all the old grease and dirt. Acetone works good too. Isopropyl alcohol works only if you get the stuff that's around 90%

Then you can use Militec 1 grease to put the ball bearings back

Or you can just get a knife with captured ball bearings and not worry about this crap anymore

The Trisula grind is awesome, and is pretty effective against an attacker if you use it properly. I used to have a Strider MV that was awesome, but that knife was bad mojo. I nearly cut off my left ring finger with it and on another occasion my left index finger while trying to unsheathe it. Sold it shortly after that

This is definitely not a bearings issue, when I pull the lock bar away from the blade the rasp goes away.  It's also intermittent in the first place which is weird.  So, it's something with the detent ball, 100%.  If I scrape the detent ball and move it around with a credit card I can get it to flip well again for a while.  I'm wondering if the ball has gotten flattened on one side.

Just need to rinse it and oil it but I don't want to use any of the oil I have in house so I'll just wait.

Dave does have instructions for taking care of the bearings as well, but I don't think that's necessary yet, this is a new knife.

              Think it, be it.

You can try to rub the area that the detent ball rides on with a pencil. The graphite helps sometimes. Still, this shouldn't happen on a new knife

Yeah, I tried that too, no dice. Still think it may be blood, or an awfully strange coincidence. I think WD-40 and lube should get it. And failing that, a trip to Granger, IN.

                  Think it, be it.

I've used WD-40, it works until it dries and that's it. If it's a new knife mac then that shouldn't be happening,
Doug's solution is the best bet but see if you can rinse it out and use some Nano oil, if you're still having
the problem I'd contact them or take it back.

Yeah, the Trisula grind is insane, had to have one! Mine has a black G-10 handle, only one of 10 made.
Haven't gotten around to studying how to use it but I see how it can do some serious damage.
I'm not a collector of fixed blades but this one caught my eye. 😉

The WD-40 thing is more for solvency than lubrication.  Dave's instructions on the bearings at least is to do a soak in that and then rinse and lube, IIRC.

I hit it with alcohol this morning and it was really nice, I'll lube the detent when I get some better oil in and see if that gets it.

Thanks guys!  I really don't want to send the damn thing in.

Do what works mac, it may get smoother over time as well. Yeah, sending it in would be a hassle…Sure hope
you don't have to go that route.

Yeah I don't think it's a "wear in" thing because it was smooth before and is intermittently so now. Guessing lubing the detent ball and track will get it done!

Shonuff. This was D's blade previously. Love each of the killer Cases I got from him and rotate them with my tacticals. Meaning I'm usually carrying a Case.

Smart move. It's a great edc. The one handed opening took me a few tries to master; firm detent. Great blade once you get it down.

I hit the F3 with isopropyl this morning and I think that cleared up the detent issue. Smooth again and it seems to be staying that way.

Right on! Good to hear your detent  issue is solved, let's hope that was all it needed. 🙂
