Couple of things that I didn't care for on the Southard. I don't usually edc anything that big. I dislike brown G10. And I much prefer tip down carry

Also, Spydercos full flat grind is amazingly sharp

Agreed on the scale, though I'm a tip up guy and don't mind big knives. It's also asymmetrical. Still like it otherwise though.

        Think it, be it.

If you get a CF scale, does it come with a CF lock bar overextension stop?

Yeah, the folks I have been looking at would do both–it would look like shit without both.

I have a ZT 0301, I carried it for a couple weeks but yes, it is on the heavy side. I have the 0350 as well
which I like better. I kind of stumbled on the Benchmade 300, I wanted the Syderco Paramilitary 2 but it
was sold out. Still on my list though.

This Curtiss is definitely intimidating, it's large and makes a menacing "snikt!" When you flip it. I love it though; big fan of the spanto and the way Dave ground it. Really keen and the edge wears well, great action and ergos.

I have all the carry knives I need now, slip joints, lock backs, thumb studs, sheath knives, flippers, an auto…  I have two more on my radar now. A friction folder, probably Japanese style (love D's Ohta's aesthetic) and a really small (2" or so) tactical or semi-tactical flipper. A flat ground one would be great, I wish Shirogorov made one in that size because their blade profile is what I'd want for that one.

                Think it, be it.

It's a great knife mac, my ZT 0301 makes a nice snap when I open it…Gets addictive!  😉
Oh I have way more than I need but there's always another one on the radar, it never ends.
I have two autos, a pre-production Pro-tech and a Benchmade Infidel in OD green. Not too big on autos,
I have trouble opening Microtechs and a few Pro-techs, the Infidel was the only one I had no trouble with.
Going to try and dig up that Spyderco Paramilitary 2, have a Sebenza on the list as well as a DPX...Glad I
got a raise this month! 🙂

Woohoo!  Congrats on the raise!  Sounds like you know exactly where to put it 😉

I have the small Sebbie 21 and love it. I know Chris Reeve wouldn't approve, but the thumb flick deployment on that sucker is pretty sick. It's such a great little knife.

I just asked Dave Curtiss if he had any Cruze Minis around. That one is a skinny little thing (3.75" closed) that would make a less intimidating office carry flipper. I like carrying 3.5-4" blades but I don't think others necessarily are as comfortable with that as I am 🙂

One thing I love about Dave's knives is he operates a water jet company and used to (still does?) make parts for other knife makers. So he does everything in house except for the bearings (IKBS). And he hand polishes and sharpens the blades himself. I guess the water jet and CNC makes some folks consider him mid-tech but it's effectively custom stuff and a lower price point.

                    Think it, be it.

I find that around 3" is the sweet spot for me for an EDC knife. Over 3.5" and using the tip of the blade is less precise. Smaller than 2.5" and the handle is too small for anything more than a couple quick cuts

All this being said, the Victorinox Tinker remains the knife I can't leave my house without

Sebbie small 21 is the one on my list, have had an eye on it for a while now. I like the the 3.5's for work
too, even though the Spyderco Military's blade is actually better for cutting stuff here.
Thanks mac, yeah, raise has been going to knives lately…Hope you can nab a Cruze Mini, nice little blade
there! 😉 Dave makes great knives, can't wrong with any of his.
Agreed Doug, Tinkers are fantastic 🙂 I also carry a Leatherman Sidekick to work, and not a day goes by
where someone doesn't need it here.

I was also looking at the little Silent Soldier from Brous but for the money I'd rather spring for a Cruze.

Today I carry an old 70s Case stag Copperlock lock back.

Last night the Curtiss started feeling a little weird in deployment, I think something got stuck in the detent ball housing maybe. Could be blood actually because I noticed I was bleeding from the tip of my flipper finger. The one design flaw with the F3 is that the heel of the blade is exposed when the blade is closed. I was testing it for sharpness and must have cut myself without realizing it. I have since filed it down. He should really fix that, it's easy enough to do and it makes the front choil more safely functional too.

Have you ever tried Frog Lube? I got a sample recently at a knife show, used it on a couple sticky blades and
                              it works really well.

Nano Oil for all my knives. Works great, especially for anything with ball bearings in the pivot. It's very thin, so it gets in between the ball bearings

I use Froglube in all my guns. Works great, but it can have issues when mixed with other types of oils/grease

I have a Paramilitary 2, great knife. Unbelievably sharp, and great for when you're out and about and don't want a lot of weight for a large blade

The pivot bushing they use is similar to a CRK, and makes the pivot action friction free even with the pivot tightened all the way down

Nano oil is great, absolutely, I use both that and the Frog Lube. Frog is good for a blade that is rust prone
so I use it on my Strider folders and my Medford Praetorian.
Nano for the pivot, for sure! 🙂

Yeah, Para 2 is my next knife. Just having trouble finding it here in ACU with the silver blade…Sold out all
                                        over town.

I hope a wash and lube will get the detent back to where it was.  I can still flip but it lost some of its smoothness, almost feels and sounds like a really fine, flour-like grit is in the detent housing.
