Z - I love your boots, great choices.  nuff said.

East-West - thanks for those clear pics of SJ and SD - I had a sense of what the SJ looks like but that is the clearest shot I've seen.  I have SD and C641 so I am most familiar with those.  What is the NW last/cougar?

For Bluegrass & Co, to give you an idea of standard Smoke Jumper last shape against Semi Dress last toe shape:

        Smoke Jumper Standard SJ last:

        Semi Dress last shape:

I will be having quite a lot of detailed info/ shots on the custom part of the website with regards to all the options White's offers including info about the various lasts etc….within the month. Meant as a custom aid but I'm sure it will be a handy resource in general.

        Cheers.

Put up a photo of c461 please…EW....huge help..because of you I just ordered a pair of SJ but with Semi Dress last...no celastic.
Tried the standard SJ last and it was so rounded....not a nice shape to me...tried the Swing.. which fit nice but looked clown like till I got a pair of rough out in swing but no celastic...looks great...looks a lot different.
I hope White's pays attention to how you have organized your site....really organized if you want to buy a new pair of boots..you show the leathers great....your photos of the stock shoes are great...all angles...just add all the lasts please.

          Hello everybody

I joined this forum cause I think you guys have the best white's boots forums out there.

I'm trying to finalize my decision on a pair of smoke jumpers.

I've narrowed it down to 6" - Smoke Jumper Last - regular brown SJ leather - soft toe - vibram 700 sole standard heel height etc…

where I hit a road block is Lace to Toe or Plain toe. I really like the way both look, but I'm torn. So I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with lace to toe or both LTT and PT on the smoke jumper last.

and here is my contribution to the thread - my brown CXL semi dress boots

these have been rebuilt twice for size adjustments. I have issues with the shape of my right foot.  as you can see in the last photo - White's used a heavy fitting on the outside of the boot to make the toe box a little less tapered. I've owned the boots for almost 3 years now, but the leather on the toe is from sometime in april - when the most recent rebuild was done. I think I probably should have gone with the smoke jumper to begin with…so lesson learned I guess. I still love these.

also my Dad's side of the family lives in Spokane, so I've been able to visit the factory a couple of times and do the factory tour ( which was awesome ) and yes - I was measured at White's. these are some pics I was able to snap - I wasn't sure how they felt about me taking pictures so theyre kinda rushed and on my old 3Gs.

            ^Nice post - welcome!

I'd vote lace-to-toe b/c you already have a standard lace with you SD.  I went lace-to-toe for my bounty hunters and have never regretted it.

yeah, Thats the thought I was having as well. Also when I showed an example of the potential boots to my fiance her response was - "those look just like your other ones…"  😠

she just doesn't understand. I need these for work though, so they gotta be comfortable and tough.

Either way they'll get the job done right.  Lace-to-toe offers a little more flexibility in terms of sizing but not so much that it should be your only consideration.

funny!  every pair of boots - every pair of jeans… "...look just like your other ones."

well guess what: I can't tell the difference between all her shit either!

I think lace-to-toe is a little more fashion-forward for street wear - it's a good choice either way you go. and less likely your girl will say they look the same as your SDs.

Hello all. I just joined this forum but I read this entire thread while trying to decide on my White's semi dress boots. I finally ordered them and they arrived yesterday. Since I didn't see any pics with my particular makeup, I figured I'd post some pictures up in case others want a reference. These were ordered directly from White's. I was afraid the standard height heels would make the heel feel too high but combined with the sole option, the heels feel like regular boot heels.

Hi everybody, Im new to White's boots and all the differences between leathers, lasts, midsoles, outsoles, etc. So, I've read over the whites thread here, at superfuture, and at styleforum, so I could try to gather as much info as possible without asking all the same questions that have been asked a thousand times already.
Ive got a build almost finalized for a durable, work worthy, yet good looking  8" bounty hunter. my question is:

^^^^ Ive always thought this was what brown dress leather looked like; essentially black but lightening with use.

^^^^^^yet Achee posted this pic of his new pair of brown dress SD's and they seem a far cry from the brown dress that ive seen in every other picture.

Does brown dress vary by that much? am I mistaken that these are both brown dress?

thanks in advance, you guys have supplied a great deal of knowledge and pictures to people like me wanting a custom pair of White's, but not knowing where to even begin.

Achee's boots are (nice) Brown CXL, the boot above his is definitely Brown Dress, hope that helps.

Ah ok. in Achee's post he had called it brown dress, so I was quite confused.

for my custom BH im going with brown dress for the toe and heel, Ive been trying to find any good pictures of a pair of white's in black bison, because ive been thinking of having that on the shaft of the boot. i thought about doing the shaft in brown bison, but i think having brown bison and brown dress together like that might not look too great.

any opinions on my build or pictures of black bison?

Depends on your requirements, bison is a nice looking leather but if you want a genuine hard wearing boot which will outlive you don't stray from dress leather. Nothing beats it for durability in my opinion.

My boots are brown dress leather, not CXL. I think the matte finish in the pics may be because of the crappy fluorescent lighting at my office. They are a bit more shiny then in the pic (although not as shiny as the comparison pic). The leather looks like it will buff up shinier over time and with use.
