Today, all day at the pool.  My invention, the Pimp's Cup, a play on the classic Pimm's Cup cocktail.  This one uses a local "grapefruit shandy," some hop bitters, lemon soda, Pimm's, and no garnish (cucumbers are in the classic Pimm's cup).  This is very refreshing.  JSJ and Zhivago, if you or a lady of yourn don't like the Schell Shocked I sent you, this is a good use for it.  I find it a bit sweet, so I either take it with the hop bitters or like this.

      Think it, be it.

Shane, if you're interested, I can give you my Old Fashioned "recipe" which is more of a procedure, but it's the best damn drink I know how to make.

        Yes please.

        I love Old Fashioned(s).

Cocktail rant.  Why do I keep having to tell bartenders to stir my martinis?  All liquor equals stir, liquor plus fruit or a non liquor equals shake.  Damn you James bond!

Agreed. Don't shake my martini, and if you can't make an old fashioned, do something else for a living because you clearly don't give a shit.

              Brilliant.

Old fashioned. Old Forrester, simple, angostura, flamed orange rind twist and garnish. Like candy.

And finishing the aperitif session with some neat tequila, orange rind expressed over the glass. I love this one:

I tend to go for those peatier styles like Laphroaig and Talisker.

^Love it!  I actually like the 10 year better than the 18 year… which while good, loses a bit too much peat imo.

                                I will take a 25 or 30 year old Laphroaig though 😃

Hmm, undecided as to my next bottle. My 1/4 cask laphroaig is almost finished. None of the deals at work are very interesting, and I really don't want to open my 'Snow Phoenix'…

Hibiki Japanese blended whisky, extremely smooth. Very nice. Caused the girl behind the bar no end of trouble "I've not sold many whiskies yet". :).

                                          Sweet, moved on to:

Petercairn which is an Islay malt. So very smokey… Not as rough as Laphroigh though, which is my favourite Islay malt and which Iain Banks described as "an explosion in a chemists shop" or something similar... I recommend Iain Bank's Raw Spirit by the way. A book about the search for the perfect single malt.

I know I'm being vague here, but does anyone know the name of a ridiculously peaty scotch which comes in a very modern looking black bottle? Retails about £70 a bottle.

Made in England, clothed in Japan, fed in America and drunk in Belgium !
