It seems that trashing popular chains like Applebees, Subway and others in the US is actually the POPULAR opinion here, not the unpopular one.

I think it's f–-ing snobby to rag on these places where millions of people eat.  I eat at Subway and other chains in NYC all the time and am proud of it.  I also eat at numerous other restaurants, including locally owned.  Not everyone in NYC can afford to spend a lot of money on food or has the desire or time to cook for themselves.  Around parts of NYC and other cities, Subway (for example) is a pretty cost-effective and comparably healthy option.

I'll definitely own being a snob about food. There's little that's of more importance than food. If it's a budgetary choice between eating quality food and wearing Iron Heart, I'm taking the food. If there's anything to be a snob about I think it's food.

I think that you can eat well for cheap and that eating fast food is creating a very expensive and painful health crisis in the US and abroad. Eating poorly has hidden costs, in other words.

        Think it, be it.

A noble sentiment mclain, but the trashing on here has generally not been about health.  It's been stuff like NYC pizza vs Pizza Hut pizza, or Shake Shack vs other (less expensive) fast food chains.  that's pure snobbery, nothing to do with health.

Someone posted earlier "who the F eats at subway?"  I can tell you who eats in them here:  FDNY; cops; construction workers; people who work in stores in the area.  People for whom $5-6 for lunch is the budget.  But yeah, let's trash them for not being able to eat as well as those of us who can afford $400 jeans.  F–ing joke.

Gents, this thread was always going to be a bit inflammatory, other wise the opinions expressed would not be unpopular (as the title suggests). However, there is a difference between expressing an unpopular opinion and trash talking or getting personal.

The beauty of this forum is that we conduct ourselves with good humour (for the most part), and this thread should absolutely not be an exception.

There have been opinions expressed on certain things in here that I a directly opposed to, and I know that I have expressed opinions that some of you are also opposed to (American Sports leaps to mind), but we take it in good grace and move on.

If we cannot manage this I will ask the mod team to lock it up, as I don't want my dumb ass idea to be the source of animosity.

If anyone wants to tell me to piss off please do it over PM and I will respond in kind  😉

Yeah I'm with you on not trashing working class people…  I've worked minimum wage jobs, worked in sweltering warehouses, digging ditches, lived paycheck to paycheck, even on a day-to-day basis (Laborfinders, show up in the morning, work your ass off on some project somewhere, collect a minimum wage paycheck at the end of the day).  Living like that is hard and it deserves respect, not condescension or derision.

What I hate is that the apparent cheapness and ready availability of fast food lures the poor and desperate in, but in the end doesn't really provide satiety (so you eat a shit ton of it) or good nutrition.  I grew up in Mississippi, the most obese state in America, and the poorest.  This is no coincidence.  Turns out that industrial fast foods are loaded with carbs, so it's not like these people are going out and having steak and shrimp to get so obese, they are eating the foods with the lowest up front costs and most ready availability.  I get sick of hearing "if you're so desperately poor, how come you're so fat?"

              Sorry for the OT rant.

              Back on topic...
Ummmmmm...  I don't generally like exposed labels.

Though I, admittedly, own a handful of shirts with Iron heart prints on them (a few Flathead as well), I don't understand the mindset of the masses to pay large amounts of money to be a walking billboard for clothing. Therefore, in my unpopular opinion I think T shirts and sweatshirts with Gigantic graphics and logos printed across them are hideous and gaudy. I have always preferred simple plain T's and hoodies and (again, for the most part) refuse to pay a company for them to allow me to wear their logo around and advertise for them. Except of course the brands I mentioned above  😉 (and still I prefer their plain tees to the graphic prints), at least I can feel good about knowing my garment was not made in sweat shop conditions and fueled by greedy minds who are constantly finding ways to cheapen their bottom line while continuing to reach their profit margin percentages by the hundreds and thousands.

Football, or soccer to Americans, is dumb for the following reasons:

                        1. The size of the field varies from stadium to stadium.  And don't tell me baseball does the same thing, because futbol varies in the truly important measurements, like goal line to goal line.  That's like having first base be 80 feet from home plate in one stadium and 100 feet away in another.
                        2. The clock doesn't stop during play stoppages; time gets added on at the end of the game, but only the official knows exactly how much.  "Hey guys- just keep going until I say stop.  That doesn't play havoc with your attempts to make strategic decisions, does it?"
                        3. Every World Cup, they introduce a new ball.  And it's a complete surprise, given to them by whichever company paid for the right to do so.  To summarize, in the world's largest sport, in the world's largest tournament, the single most important piece of equipment gets changed, without any input by players or coaches, or any chance to use it before the competition.  That's like having Puma show up at the Olympic starting line and telling the runners, "Here.  These are your new shoes.  I know you've never run in high tops before, but our marketing department says you'll love them.  Or at least the viewers watching you across the globe will."

Amen. I think that soccer could be fixed pretty easily with a few tweaks. First make the pitch the same size on all stadiums. Second introduce the penalty box concept. A misconduct to me is like when somebody takes a swing at another player. Calling a missed slide tackle a misconduct in potentially having a player thrown from the game for it is excessive.  Save the cards for true misconduct, introduce a penalty box concept, and I think a lot of the flopping in flailing goes away.  I agree with your assessment of the way they keep time as well; it's really silly to count up instead of down to a moving, unclear target and also not to have stoppages and to have extra time at the end of the game. Last, and this is the most ridiculous rule, is that there need to be sudden-death overtimes. Soccer is one of the sparsest scoring games where initial possession means the least, and that's why it makes the most sense and is the most equitable of all sports to have a sudden-death overtime.

                          Think it, be it.

I get it anyway, I point out that 2 American sports are just girls sports in the UK, and your football is really just slowed down rugby with extra padding, so you guys get to rag on REAL football for a while.
