Great story Peter, I agree 100% the light weight gear is absolutely the most fun! congrats on landing it!

This is how I spent this last week.  My brother in-law and father in-law enter the local salmon derby each year on Lake Huron, it's usually freezing and raining and the fishing is pretty slow, but if you stick with it there are some pretty huge fish in there.  Took some pics, figured I'd throw a few up.  Only one fish worth taking a shot of, 14.75 salmon, put up a big fight and made a mess of all of the lines in the water, but it was fun anyway! My father in-law was the lucky one!

First day out, spent 8hrs in the fog, could only see roughly 10ft in any direction.  Long, slow, very disorienting.
        🙂

Day 2, on the way out, sun just coming up.

Day 3 the nicest day of the week,

        Wind turbines on the shore

        Love the water colour

        Here's the fish.

We never usually get many fish in the boat, but it doesn't seem to deter us in the slightest!! Always end up having a great time  🙂

I envy you guys who make it out onto big water often-  I fly fish the streams and forest preserves around Chicago.  It's almost all heavily stocked water with a lot of traffic, but still, I love it…

G have you had much interest in the spring fly trip?  I'd be keen to know costs, timing etc.  it's probably out of my reach, but you never know..

what sort of reel will you be using
                                          a spinning reel

what sort of fish you after
                                          pike, zander, bass

                                          fresh water or salt water
                                          fresh water

                                          what weight line
depends on if i'm going to use "standard" or "braided" line, right?
braided i'd get one between 0,12 and 0,14mm

                                          what length rod
                                          from 2.40m to 3.00m

                                          what weight lure
                                          check the picture post above

how far do you need to cast
gonna fish from the riverside so i'd say 20-30m maybe!

                                          …

some spots...the streaming was pretty intense. would be perfect for fly-fishing i think!
