Hi everyone, I've been following this thread for a while now and thought it was high time I actually engaged…Since acquiring my first pair of Vibergs last year, like the rest of you, I'm now an addict!
After these sample sales and a MTO arriving recently too, the collection has pretty quickly blossomed from 1 pair to (a soon to be) 5. And I thought the cigarettes were bad for me...I'll try and get some pictures posted in the next few days.

why are they so anti-shell?

'I have some horse hide, but I won't use it. It's very hard to work with. I've done it for a few people, flat head with Japanese and then VMC with horween. Both of which is a nightmare to do. The leather is inconsistent in thickness and the finish isn't the best.
Overall it would add like 200$ to the retail. Our cost is around $100 per piece. So it's not really worth it as most people will never understand how much it costs and how difficult it is to work with.
And more importantly right now, shell Cordovan and horse butt leather(which your talking about) is almost impossible to get.
The hide market is in a huge slump for horses.
Horween can't get enough as the Chinese are buying them at a premium.
I've got cordovan on order for someone who placed order in January, and the leather won't be here till November.
Just isn't a sound way to do business and be profitable.
You can buy horse fronts for jackets no problem , but not the butts.
'I have heard elsewhere that horsehide is hard to work with in lasting the boot; but as far as the finish of the leather goes, I have to say that I have a pair of the black horsehide similar to the VMC ones, and the leather is simply the best I've ever owned on boots. Really really nice. So no complaints here on that score. Also, if you look at the pics of Finn's brown horsehides, those are if anything even nicer. I suppose we need to see how they stand the test of time, but to this point mine have held up very well indeed (much better than the pair of CXLs I have from another maker).

^^ That's a definite should. What kind of sole do those bad boys have? I've been a big fan of the Dainite.

This is the first pair I acquired sometime last year. Bought of ebay (may be of someone on this forum?) the ripple sole I know is a bit marmite for most people, but I highly recommend it. It is obviously a lot of cash to lay down for a sole you may end up hating, but I am a huge fan. It also mean these shoes individually weigh the same as a small child.
The natural tan rough out is incredible, requires very little care and gets furrier with age! I've also worked out they've clocked out a fair amount of air miles! (Canada-England(superdenim)-USofA-England if anyone gives a sh*t)
One, in hindsight obvious recommendation, do not wear a ripple sole in icy conditions. I found out the hard way on an icy sloped pavement in full view of a hundred other Londoners.

for you sample sale veterans, how long did it take for you to receive your boots?
i have my boots shipped to a friend in the USA (thanks again mate!), so i can not tell exactly…my first pair is still en route to him (got shipped last friday!), so i think one week is a good starting point!
