I think it's kinda decided that I'm going with a small Sebenza. It looks hard as fuck, I'm tired of springs breaking on autos, I'll learn how to open it just as quickly in a short while, and at 17 cm it's not too big.

A Sebenza is pretty easy to learn to open fast one-handed. I doubt that it'd take you more than 5 minutes to get comfortable with it.

Most states won't let you carry a fixed blade here. Pretty much all states won't let you carry a switchblade/butterfly knife

Folding knives are really what most states allow you to carry, and then there are local knife laws that dictate how large the folder can be. In NYC, it's 4" limit on the blade length. I believe in CA and MA it's less than 3"

That being said, I've carried larger folders than 4" and fixed blades in the past without getting harassed by police.

My Sebenza is about 3.5" in length, so I'm street legal today!

Maybe knife owners should start a section of the NRA because it seems like one can have a gun more easily than a knife!!!

There is actually a knife collectors association lobbying for knife rights, but I don't know much about them

I'm thinking about getting a Sebenza for Jody's son when he graduates from HS in a couple years. The kid loves knives (got him a Keryshaw Tyrade and a Benchmade Griptilian) and I think it would be the perfect time to get him a higher class of knife

I tried carrying a fixed blade for "oh $hit" situations for awhile and just couldn't find a comfortable way to do it.  It was a good excuse to buy an SLCC though…

Daveo, just got me a Strider ZM…

A few years ago, I wouldn't be caught dead with a slipjoint, but I'm older now, a little more sophisticated, and don't always want a tactical folder hanging out of my pocket all the time

That being said, I have a huge white fade on the rear right pocket of my 623SRs from my CRK Umnumzaan

A friend of mine EDC's a fruit knife…. slipjoint and extremely narrow. Surprisingly handsome and functional, despite locklessness and thrift. A knife is a knife!

I found the EDC thread on superfuture - very cool! So I thought I'd crosspost here… I lost my longtime Swiss military knife, and replaced it with an Emerson - seen here:

That Mike Alsdorf Peanut is beautiful!

                        Is that a Mini CQC7?

I used to have a ton of Emersons, the wave feature was so damn cool

Is that a Fenix light in there as well?

I'm heading to New Orleans next weekend, switching to my summer gear…meaning 14.5oz Flat Head denim and a Case Stockman instead of the CRK Umnumzaan

Yes indeed it's a mini cqc7! And the light is a quark mini cr2 - great little thing!

Dchill - yes, I spent quite a number of hours the other night, being entertained by the EDC thread!

Never got into the Quarks. I've been carrying my Novatac for years and I love it. It's unusual that I carry a light for that long. I used to have a huge collection of Surefires

I hear a lot of good things about the Ra lights. Right now, I have too many expenses and not enough need for a 180lumen light to justify it. I use my Novatac to death on inspections though

Daveo, a little bit of both. I had my eye on this knife for a long long time, and finally pulled the trigger on it. I don't have a lot of opportunity to carry a fixed blade, but this summer I should finally make the move to Maryland and there's more outdoor stuff to do there than in NYC, so I'll use the Strider then. My CRK Professional Soldier gets a lot of use for the same reason this one will, skeletonized handles are easy to clean

I'd look at the Unmumzaan too dude…it's a great, versatile knife...also easy to clean!!!

Yeah, I'm looking forward to using the Ra for many years to come.

As far as fixed blades go, I think I'm about to pull the trigger on a Rat RC-4 or Bark River Bravo 1.  I'm leaning towards the RC-4 since I'll get a dozier ks-7 when I find one anyway.

That being said, I almost never carry them because they're a pain in the ass

I'm moving towards slip joints these days. Jody's been asking what I wanted for my upcoming birthday, and I changed my story from wanting a framelock knife to a Shatt and Morgan slipjoint

There are actually few things I really need a locking knife for (mostly I open boxes, cut food, cut the occassional small branch out of the way, sometimes I'll whittle a stick out of boredom). You really need to know how to use a knife that doesn't have a lock, and slipjoints just look all that much more classy

yep.  I'm only getting the RC-4 for my backpack.  I'll never carry it on my side unless I'm camping.  But….I do want something that's tough as hell for my pack and this one fits the bill without being overkill (price), plus it has the best warranty in the industry.

As far as an EDC goes, I'm looking at getting one of the new William Henry E6 EDC.  I have the Sebenza but sometimes it's a bit large.
