where have you got those cats paw soles though? guessing those were added afterwards during a resole!?

Yes, i was so lucky to have the previous owner have the CP soles and heels added, they are true vintage CP no repro.
Sadly they're pretty much done now, so these need a resole, the nails on the heels are scratching the sidewalk.
thinking of going with Vibram 705 or Biltrite halfsole and CP heels.

        think i'll go…
        black cxl,
        single midsole,
        vibram 430 mini vib sole,
        standard heel,
        1/4" lowered,
brass (or black or antique) eyes&hooks

that should do the trick! 🙂

That's a nice build.  Classic, really.  SD or BH?

I have to say, I dislike the flimsy laces White's packs with the Semi-Dress. I have been looking for really (!) well made laces for a while, but so far, I have't found what I am looking for. Either they are too loosely knit (which makes them unravel and catch the hooks) and/or the ends splice too soon. Any recommendation?

I used to feel this way about SD laces (the standard ones with the Oxfords are even worse), until I looked for something better. The thin standard laces are actually tough as fuck, never snapped one yet although I've snapped plenty of more substantial looking laces.

I find the flat waxed laces that Viberg provide are virtually indestructible even with speed hooks, but am unsure if they sell these on their own…

the oxford laces are awful.  I swapped mine as soon as I could.  The shoes then had to go back to Whites briefly and the put their shitty laces back on.  I just got new laces yesterday.

what the laces?  I just got some laces at the local cobbler.  They are thicker in diameter.  The stock laces are really thin.  Feels like your foot is being choked out gangland style by a piano wire.

Whites leather laces however are the best leather laces I have ever used.  get a small glob of obenaufs and lather the laces up and they are good to go.

The SD laces are much stronger than their size dictates, plus personally I think that they suit the build.

i like leather laces on my Oxfords, not so on my SD's, I am afraid. They are simply too loud, I think.
I will try my luck at a few local makers again to find the right pair of laces.

                                      @TF, at your request.

My White's SD, owning about 4 years, wear unknown, haven't kept track they're in my everyday boot rotation.

What I really like about these is that the block heel is flush with the boot, whereas so often the White's block overhangs so far off the back…  Was this a special request?  Just luck?  A different sole than original?

It's what I'd like on the pair I am ordering soon...
