      Omega have just announced a new anti-magnetic movement, which is going to turn up in an Aqua Terra later this year.

      It can cope with fields an order of magnitude higher than your common-or-garden anti-magnetic watch. And I like the seconds hand.

      If I was being sensible, that will be my next watch. Which means I'll end up with something entirely impractical anyway. 🙂

        @Giles:

        @dirtyselvedge:

        If yr watch crown was screwed tight, there shouldn't have been a reason for any water to have leaked into the watch.

        Be sure to tell the breitling service centre on this.
        A watch of such "calibre" should be waterproof and not water resistant hence a swim isnt and shouldn't be an issue.

        Anyways 750gbp…ouch !

        Yes the crown was screwed tight, always was.  But see, Graeme's post above.  It was the seal that failed….

        It's always the fine print that gets you isn't it.

        .

          Nice watch.  I don't really like Omega's decision to reposition itself as a direct competitor to Rolex, especially by jacking up prices by thousands of dollars without any attendant improvement in features, but that ship has sailed.

            I think that's true of a lot of brands. There seems to have been a policy of raising their prices by around 10% per year over the last five or six years, without the "attendant improvement in features" you mentioned. At least Omega are making incremental improvements in their products, whereas Breitling seem to be selling the same thing for a lot more.

              A lot of the big Breitling hikes are due to using the new in-house movements in certain models, otherwise I think they've been pretty much in line with the other big brands with their increases.

                I'm pro-Omega so take this for what its worth - while I dislike the price hikes, they have been improving features (8500 in house, Si 14 balance spring, now anti-magnetic movement 8508) and improving fit and finish (see Aqua Terra 2500 vs Aqua Terra 8500 and Planet Ocean 2500 vs Planet Ocean 8500) Not saying that justifies the huge price increases but they have been improving their products quite a bit along with raising the prices!

                Also most brands have been increasing prices due to the weakening dollar and strengthening Asian markets.

                  Well, as I can't afford an Aqua Terra this year, which I think is my main want-to-buy, I bought a Vostok off eBay for fun:

                  I put a cheap brown leather strap on it for the time being and, to be honest, I really like it for the money.

                    The Vostok is really nice! I like mine on a leather strap.

                      Now there's something you don't see everyday.  Very nice!

                      (I have an Aqua Terra btw, wearing it right now actually, great watch!!)

                        I think it might be your fault I bought this one! I thinks it's great fun. Plain brown strap shown below, only £9.99.

                            I'm a fan of the Poljot 3133 manual wind chrono movement.  The Russians are a little lacking in finish and decoration, but the movements are durable and solid.

                              Anyone know of a dealer, etc that specializes in vintage Girard Perregaux? My grandmother gave me my grandfather's watch and I'd like to find out more about it. As you can see the crystal and the face don't look too good. It is marked J14K on the back (along with my grandfather's initials), has a manual non-hacking movement and it is keeping good time.

                                I'm done with Omega. They have pulled out of my favorite retailers and won't discount at all at their boutiques. I paid 2900 for a new speedy a few years ago and now they are around five grand last time I checked at their boutique. No way.

                                  I can see the price increases like that for new models but for unchanged models its crazy
