Thanks, really informative. I really like knives as both utilitarian and aesthetic things but as an office bound pussy + nanny state UK legal flailing I imagine I wont be pursuing a knife collection any time soon.

I do have a nice range of Opinel knives though.

Yep, 2" blade. 5" total length. Just like my Pro-Tech Stinger.

Eli, there used to be a CRK model called the Umfaan that was smaller than the small Sebenza, but it is no longer in production, and with a blade length of 2.3", it still might be too big for what you are looking for.

I forgot to mention what I use to sharpen.  I am currently using a sharpmaker and I"m not all that happy with the results I'm getting (I find the time/result ratio to be better with my 5 stone Lansky kit).  I have been on the fence about an Edge Pro for awhile now though…

Paula bought me an Edge Pro a few months ago, I love it.  I can actually sharpen knives now.

          Anyways, here's my motley collection:

Nice collection, Giles! I like your Kreins a lot, I've got a couple of pieces by him as well.

That Sibert does look quite tasty, but if I'm going to buy a Benchmade it sure as shit is going to be one with an Axis lock… I love those things. Also, I heard they're using the perforated bushing from the umnumzaan on the Insingo (but without the crazy huge pivot)... It looks so juicy.

Yup, the new Sebbies all have the perfed washers. I'll tell ya, I LOVE my Umnumzaan

I would send my Sebbie in for those perfed washers, but I'm really attached to my Sebenza and kinda don't want it to change for sentimental value

Braille teeth, I don't know if you've seen Ken's collection before, but it's legendary, and that's not an exaggeration.

Oh, and I have a special edition Sebenza. Google "In Remembrance" Sebenza. That one is near and dear to my heart as well

I didn't mention that one since it's one of the hardest knives ever to find, and you'll pay through the damn nose for it

Congrats! Let us know how it is. I'd like to hear about how it differs from the standard Sebenza other than the blade profile.

Eli, the aftermarket demand on these has actually decreased in the past few years. 2-3 years ago, it would have cost you $600-$700 or more to get them on the secondary market. In the past year, I have seen them sell for cheaper, more in the $400-$450 range. Obviously, there still is an aftermarket premium on these, and like Doug said, they are really rare, but it's not as cost-prohibitive to get them now as it once was.

One thing I will say about the Wm. Henry's is that I could NEVER feel comfortable actually DOING anything with one of them. I'm not opposed to opulence by any means, but I feel like they are kind of delicate in their craftsmanship. (I mean, we're all Iron Heart wearers here, we presumably place a premium on utility and durability…) The button lock is quite elegant...
Fallknivens are GREAT. I have a friend with a PXL and DAMN is it nice.

Since I was a kid, I've always liked pocketknives. My first one was an El Cheapo slipjoint. When I was a teenager, my dad got me a Swiss Army Knife. And the irresponsible teenager I was, I lost the damn thing

Fast forward about a dozen years, and my tastes in pocketknives is not unlike my taste in denim: refined and expensive

For the last few years, this has been my predominant Every Day Carry knife. Having a pocketknife, in my opinion, just goes with the workwear motif…and is an essential tool for every man...even if it's to open up envelopes

                                  Anyone else carry a pocketknife?

Chris Reeve Knives Large Classic Sebenza

I have a LOT of knives (well, less these days, maybe two dozen tops), but this is the one I always go back to. The handles are sandblasted titanium and develops wear and character just like a good pair of jeans

Ha!  I have the same one.  😉
I also have a benchmade and a tiny little spyderco.

I love the blade profile - it has a beautiful curve to it.

I thought about getting one, but I actually prefer the normal blade and already have one.  Might wait for the 2010 limited edition though.  😉

I find that if I use a knife that small for more than a couple minutes, my hand starts to cramp up. I've personally found that a knife with a 3.5" blade and a 4.5" handle is just the right balance between comfort and carryability
