Benchmade 943… sadly recently stolen. Am fiending like a mofo for a chris reeve sebenza...

Awesome choice! I got my first Sebbie years ago, and that led to a small sebbie with blue calfskin inlays, then an Umnumzaan, then a Profeessional Soldier, and then a rare Nkonka…Chris Reeve is a nice chunk of my knife collection

The Sebenza is one of a handful of knives I would never let go though. That being said, I've been carrying my Umnumzaan for months

Hey Doug, are you on the USN?

      Hi Ken 😉

I think the last time I saw you was at Vegas Classic four years ago when I was working for Rick Hinderer

Yeah, I was just about to say, I remember meeting you then. I remember that I wanted to buy that Hinderer Knives thong for my wife, but you already had dibs on it 😉

I still collect more than I use, but I definitely use more now than I did back then. The collection has gotten a little smaller and more focused over the years, too.

I have a handful of customs…one from RJ, one from Rick...and a bunch of fixed blades from Hossom/Brum/Krein...I really just have a bunch of users these days from CRK. I remember your sick collection...you're my knife hero

My ex still has that thong!!!

That Benchmade/Sibert is really tempting me these days though...crazy that a production knife is that nice...

Have been considering giving the jeans their first wash… not so much due to cleanliness issues but due to the fact that I wear the knees out so much that it looks kind of uneven with the rest of the fading and I'm wondering if It'll even out a bit in the wash. I'm quite open to input on this - has anyone else washed theirs? This dye seems pretty fugitive.

Hey, USN dudes! I used to lurk there too. Am... am actively considering a CRK Insingo (http://www.knifeart.com/insingo.html ). I've owned two benchmade 921's (the switchback, since discontinued) one in D2 and one in s30v… Love the wharnecliffe. That or an Ikoma guardian balisong, but edcknives has been slow lately.

I heard the pivot action on the Insingo is really dialed in, and considering it's a CRK, that's saying A LOT

LOL Doug, I guess at least you got to enjoy the thong back then.

That Benchmade Sibert is an amazing production folder, one of the very best that I have ever seen. I'm guessing that you brought up the knife because you've already seen this, but in case you haven't, I actually wrote a review for that knife yesterday here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=732006

Hey, good to see another USNer here! I've never handled the Insingo before, but seeing that it is basically a Sebenza with a different blade profile, I can say that you can't really go wrong with it.

That Guardian Angel bali may be really hard to find, though. There aren't too many of those around, and the demand for Flavio's stuff is through the roof right now. If you're fortunate enough to find one, it may cost you an arm and a leg.

Not that I'm particularly a bleeding heart liberal or anything but what's the legal situation in the USA with regard to carrying knives? IIR here in the UK if you carry a blade over 2 inches then you are potentially prosecutable.

                      H

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to add a little bit to Doug's previous answer. US knife carry laws are generally much less restrictive than those in Europe. For folding knives, all states allow carry of locking folders, and the majority of states do not impose a length limit on the blade of a folding knife. Most states outlaw the carry of automatics and balisongs (butterfly knives), but 19 states do allow some sort of carry of them.

                      @DougNg:

Folding knives are really what most states allow you to carry, and then there are local knife laws that dictate how large the folder can be. In NYC, it's 4" limit on the blade length. I believe in CA and MA it's less than 3"

Actually, in the state of California, there is no length limit on the blade of a manual folder that can be carried legally. There are certain municipal restrictions, such as no blades over 3" in the cities of Los Angeles and Oakland, and there is a statewide limit that no one can carry a knife with a blade over 3" on school grounds, but overall, California's knife laws are pretty good for how liberal the state is. You can even legally carry an automatic or a balisong in CA if the blade length is under 2".

For fixed blades, I am much less familiar with nationwide carry laws, but in California, fixed blades have to be carried openly. However, there is no length limit on those either.

Thanks, really informative. I really like knives as both utilitarian and aesthetic things but as an office bound pussy + nanny state UK legal flailing I imagine I wont be pursuing a knife collection any time soon.

I do have a nice range of Opinel knives though.

Eli, there used to be a CRK model called the Umfaan that was smaller than the small Sebenza, but it is no longer in production, and with a blade length of 2.3", it still might be too big for what you are looking for.

I forgot to mention what I use to sharpen.  I am currently using a sharpmaker and I"m not all that happy with the results I'm getting (I find the time/result ratio to be better with my 5 stone Lansky kit).  I have been on the fence about an Edge Pro for awhile now though…

Paula bought me an Edge Pro a few months ago, I love it.  I can actually sharpen knives now.

                            Anyways, here's my motley collection:

Nice collection, Giles! I like your Kreins a lot, I've got a couple of pieces by him as well.

That Sibert does look quite tasty, but if I'm going to buy a Benchmade it sure as shit is going to be one with an Axis lock… I love those things. Also, I heard they're using the perforated bushing from the umnumzaan on the Insingo (but without the crazy huge pivot)... It looks so juicy.

Yup, the new Sebbies all have the perfed washers. I'll tell ya, I LOVE my Umnumzaan

I would send my Sebbie in for those perfed washers, but I'm really attached to my Sebenza and kinda don't want it to change for sentimental value

Braille teeth, I don't know if you've seen Ken's collection before, but it's legendary, and that's not an exaggeration.

Oh, and I have a special edition Sebenza. Google "In Remembrance" Sebenza. That one is near and dear to my heart as well

I didn't mention that one since it's one of the hardest knives ever to find, and you'll pay through the damn nose for it

Eli, the aftermarket demand on these has actually decreased in the past few years. 2-3 years ago, it would have cost you $600-$700 or more to get them on the secondary market. In the past year, I have seen them sell for cheaper, more in the $400-$450 range. Obviously, there still is an aftermarket premium on these, and like Doug said, they are really rare, but it's not as cost-prohibitive to get them now as it once was.
