I'll counter all the drinking in here, and say that other than the year before last year (when I tried again in ernest), I've been sober for 5 years. Not had a drink for the last 18 months. Have some $50/bottles being cellared under the stairs since 2009….Happiness is swimming, cycle, coffee, and denim 🙂

Good for you. The only times I have more than one drink in a night are at large parties (like the IH/SE weekend). I'll have a beer or a glass of wine with my dinner maybe once every couple of months.

I used to drink really heavily seven days a week, but saw how drinking excessively can change people and throttled back fast and hard (my best friend and ex girlfriend both managed to alienate everyone around them)

I stay focused on family, work and exercise now

I, too, am mostly a social drinker.  The IH/SE party probably involved more booze consumption for me than the previous 6 months combined.  It was a great time, though.

And like you, Mega, I feel the need to make some changes.  Specifically, I need to shed some weight (30+ lbs.) and improve my cardiovascular health.

Upon the recommendation of a couple members here, I started doing kettlebells at home for strength and cardio training. Hugely recommended. Bought the "Skogg System" DVDs on Amazon and have been using them religiously for four months now

Btw, I DO NOT recommend swinging kettlebells around pets or children…

One of my cats thought it would be a good idea to sneak up on me while I was doing swings...didn't go well for him...

First, what the hell took you so long to see it?

Second, yup. There was kind of a "poof" noise, knocking over the coffee table, bouncing off the couch and then skidding across the hardwood floor

Thor wasn't bad, and I thought Spiderman was pretty good.  But that could be just because I think Toby Maguire is slightly creepy and Emma Stone makes everything happy.

Didn't see First Class, but it didn't look good, based on commercials.

@DougNg, it was 7-days a week of excess drinking here that led to my sobering up all those years ago. I still have the taste, and what works best for me is not starting, as it always ends badly. I've aged enough to realize that =). Sorry to hear about your cat. On the kettlebells, I'll be starting cross fit in the next few weeks for a general bulking up. I recall seeing your bulking up via WAYWT pictures; epic!

@Dirty Denim, wow, that would not have been fun, really good work getting clean

@Giles :), Someone's got to keep them honest ,enjoy :).

Hopefully I didn't come off high and mighty with a sobriety comment. It's a contrast, and as equally real/valid. To each their own, and I'm supportive of all experiences and forms of life. If it works for you power to you. For me it didn't and I enjoy this new way of being/experience greater. #balance.
