Also, I like these but really don't like to go back to non-heavy pocket bags, feels so flimsy

Someone who knows please , not speculating..
I soaked these three times and now the starch is gone and they are soft, does this mean they will fade like the 21oz with less contrast, or does it only have to do with the type of denim

it only has to do with the starch being used for the denim. losing the starch after a couple of soaks/washes isn´t a bad thing to happen. the denim stays the same, it´s just that the fabric doesn´t "brake" as easy as it would with a lot of starch in it. also it could be possible, that you ain´t getting those high contrast fades, since the denim isn´t that stiff anymore which means it "bends" easier.
not sure why these should fade like the 21oz denim with less contrast though?!…contrast is something you get when wearing a pair of denim as long as possible without giving it a soak/wash! if you wash your pair every week/month, the contrast isn´t going to be as much as it is with a pair washed once a year!...so no, they won´t fade like the 21oz with less contrast. these gonna fade like the 18oz and you might be able to get a nice contrast if you just wear´em for a long time without washing...as soon as everything´s in place you can wash whenever you feel like it!

            hope it answered your question!?...

Yea, I know what your saying, clearly not washing them will give more high contrast but I always thought the reason the 634s didn't fade with high contrast was because it was so soft. I just really like the look of sharp high contrast combs. Mabey I should restarch them?

My 21 oz busters got some pretty high contrast on the combs by spraying some water behind my knees and bending them a few times to set the combs in. I'd try that. I think you're fine!

I know I sound like a noob asking about high contrast, but I don't care what anyone says, I like the look. I understand why people like the vintage Levi style fading and I like that too but there's something about high contrast combs that I say damnnnnn.

not sure that this is the reason, imo you just need to wear your bottoms a lot…and long!
so i´m pretty sure that there are some 634s´s around with some high contrast combs and whiskers...the thing is that the high contrast isn´t staying forever, it´s getting less and less with every wash you do.

and o/course you can restarch them if you want or just use the trick that ben came up with! if the combs are set, just keep on wearing and wearing...that´s all you gotta do to get high contrast!

                          IJ´s gonna kill you 😉
seriously though, if you want/need high contrast in your life then just buy heavy jeans (18oz+) and rock´em to death. as long as possible without washing so the combs and everything stays in the same spot like forever! also there's always the option to soak your trousers after several months, since a soak doesn´t "destroy" the set combs like a wash would do.

The 21oz. is coated with (silicone?), which is one of the reasons it fades differently.  I am sure there are a lot of other "tricks of the trade" going into the various types of denim IH uses that we are not aware of.

                            Found this:

The 21oz selvedge denim is silicone coated to reduce bleed…

You do not need to restarch them.  The reason that the 21oz fades slowly is partly the softness, partly the weight and partly something secret we do to the jean post construction to retard the fading.

The 18oz is loomstate.  It has had feck all post loom process applied to it.  It is (even with the starch removed) stiffer than the 21oz.  It is also slubbier which gives rise to high contrast.

Treat a pair of 18 and a pair of 21 in exactly the same way and you will get far more contrast out of the 18.

From a distance similar, close up very different.  That is due to the slubbiness of the 18 compared to the relative smoothness of the 25

NerkG, the marbling on the 18oz is fucking ridiculous. When I was first getting into IH, I went to SE for the first time last December.  I still didn't own any jeans from IH. There was a dude outside in a pair of 666S made of the 18oz denim. It looked like he had marbled lighting bolts all over his pants, it was epic. I asked what kind of denim and ever since that day, I've been waiting for the 18oz in a slightly fuller cut, which I got in the Vulcans.  If your really into fadez, 18oz has way more character, IMHO…...(And yes, I've seen and touched both in raw and faded states)
