I'm an amateur (idiot) at taking pictures.  Which is why I bought a canon T2i. My question is, is it the macro lens that enables some of u to take such amazing close ups?  Or is it my inability to work it correctly why I can't get a good shot?

If you do not have a Macro, that would certainly help.  I'd pop into a local dealer with your camera body and ask to try a few macro lenses out…
