would anyone be able to speak on the quality of the Wesco burgundy leather? I know it is 5oz and 2mm thick…I posted a similar question in the Viberg thread because I really like the idea of the Merlot CXL but am not sure how it measures up against the Wesco Burgundy...if anyone has any thoughts on quality comparisons between the Wesco and Viberg engineers would be grateful.
I own the Viberg horsehide engineer with flat toe and it is the best boot I have ever owned together with the FlatHead horshide workboot. On the other side, I do not know Wesco or the burgundy leather in general but I am sure quality and feeling is on high level as well from what you can read from the colleagues here. I believe it makes no sense to talk about "Go or Show" just buy what you like and you feel comfortable with. If you have the chance to try on the boots live, use it. imho

Go and show is my personal opinion. I ride, and quite a lot. I know wescos have been used by plenty of others who ride. That's why they got my vote.
Functionality and dependability, as well waterproofness means a lot when your on a bike several hours straight in pouring rain. To me engineer boots are like tools for mechanic….
I'm not putting viberg down, If I understand correctly, they are fairly new on engineer boots, correct me if I'm wrong.
And simonc, your comment tells a lot...

IJ i fully understand what u mean and respect your opinion as from ur long experience as a biker. No disrespect intended. Just wanted to share that I am happy with my viberg engineers. I am not a biker but use em Hard in my everyday life especially walking Long distances in nature with my dog over dirt, grass, stone etc. I am feeling safe in them.
I am fully Open minded this is why I wrote I do not know wesco, which for sure have a great product.
Peace. -
these wescos on the picture im wearing are kindda weird i got these from factory seconds.
the leather on these are NOT black fire NOR black oil but a different breed. maybe its for their japan market cause it has these old school roller buckles and a bump toe last . and 2010 sole. -
Love that pic rocket!

Just curious, what's the little patch supposed to be for? Just looks?
i think it´s some sort of "protection" when you´re riding your bike that the leather of your boots won´t tear as fast while shifting as it would if there was just one layer of leather!…

Isn't it usually only on the left boot? You don't need extra protection for the right, do you?
