@shubharamani:
Please…Please...help Prez Obama pass nationalized healthcare for all Americans - through your prayers (yes, even atheists can send good vibes out to the universe) !
crossing my fingers..it´s still a riddle to me why that hasn´t passed years and years ago..the US and Africa and China are some of the few countries without a healthcare system - unbelievable…
Your (my) prayers have been heard. Once again the battle was won on the back of women, though. Beatle, on your upcoming trip to the US you will have the opportunity to talk to many Americans. Talk to some over 40. When you feel comfortable with them ask them about health care, education, death penalty. You will be surprised what kind of answers you get from people that you'd otherwise deem perfectly mature and intelligent.
I talked to many Americans and Europeans (who lived long enough in both spheres to be able to tell) who agree that there is about a 50-200 year gap in civilization/culture between the US and Europe. It's a fascinating subject.

Stewart, did you see the belt thread? There are some much nicer options than Tanner for less money. Also none of the crazy big ass branding on those belts. Just making sure. Check the first three links in particular. It also is nice to have something slightly different.
For example the Santasleigh belts are 10-12oz leather instead of 9-10oz and they cost $29 instead of $72. Leather looks nicer, too. Not to mention those really nice double layer belts that are still a tad cheaper than Tanner.

If it matters, I never have to worry about great health care because I have a great job which offers private, high-end healthcare, at very little cost to me. But there are too many downtrodden, hopeless Americans who have had to declare bankruptcy because of medical bills…I can go on and on. Life has been cruel to them and this has got to stop. Barack Omama evokes tears in me (and that happens rarely), because he is a model citizen for having boundless compassion -- hope and compassion for those who are far less fortunate, have no hope, have nowhere to turn. What an amazing man Barack Obama is !

You totally got it, dep! Education is the next big deal. But the situation in health was so dire it needed attention first. Also health is easier to turn around and see effects sooner than education. He said he wanted to work on that. We'll see.
Fact is that the greatest asset of a country are its people. If the people are in good health and well educated, they can be efficient members of that society who produce a surplus and make sound decisions. If they are sick and stupid they will cost society more money than we could ever invest in healthcare and education.
What disturbs me is that some states have already announced they want to go to the Supreme Court against this. Yeah, like having healthy citizens is against the constitution.
