New Chippewa Katahdin Iron Works Engineer Boots from L.L. Bean for $40. Pretty solid boots made in USA with Vibram soles.

These are actually pretty nice and similar looking to a pair of whites sd's.  I may have to buy these and at $200 I'd say why not look as if.  How are these holding up Urb?  Do they have a solid look to them when worn?  I ask because I hate when a boot is easily stretched out & don't hold their shape which happened to a pair of Aldo boots i bought

Of course not just using as example.  I paid close to $200 for them so it was an easy comparison based on price

They're holding up fine. Shit I didn't even know Aldo made boots that expensive. I guess people will buy almost anything.

                  Hey Guys,

I thought I would post a few pics of an old-time local “honey hole” shoe store that I went to yesterday in Western North Carolina.  This store has been in business since 1953, and I think they still have some of the shoes they opened with!  I took a few shots of some of the older, American-made shoes and boots that I thought you guys might like.  And while I was there I took the opportunity to purchase a pair of NOS Carolina moc toe oxfords and the $10.00 pair of Carolina boots in the pics.  The $10.00 boots are size 4 ½, which are way too small for me, but I thought I would save them for a few years for my son to wear.  The oxfords I bought are 11 ½ EE and fit great, but I forgot to take pics of them!  Coming soon…  Anyway, here are the pics!

Madewell got rebranded i think in the 80's and I think now may be owned by JCrew.  I have heard that they are in the process of rebranding again and doing a heritage line ala HW Carter and Sons but don't quote me on that.

The jeans are marked 29 W but measure 30.5.  Pretty standard carpenter jeans with a roomy cut.

Very strange to me that they would resurrect a workwear brand 15 years later as a women's clothing shop.  Like the link mentions, most people that buy their current stuff probably have no idea of the clothing behind the namesake. So what's the point?  😞
The name even sounds like a workwear brand

No idea about the history of the brand, but these days Madewell is definitely a women's only subsidiary of JCrew.  My wife has dragged me there several times.  I've seen more of that store than any man should have to.

EDIT: the stores do sort of have a vintage-y feel to them, but the clothes are typical J Crew stuff.  Definitely no connection to the heritage of the name.

Happens all the time though.  Carter's became children's clothes as did osh kosh.  The name gets bought and the brand changes.  If anything it makes it more fun to go find the old stuff!
