      @Giles:

      OK, I can beat all this.  So read and give thanks.

      I sold a pair of Vibergs to a regular customer in Indonesia.  They cost him USD750 shipped.
      3 days later a take a phone call from UPS telling me that the customer has refused to take delivery as the taxes etc were the Indonesian Rupiah equivalent of nearly USD800.  Yes you read that right - cost of boots USD750, taxes USD800…

      I told UPS to tell the Indonesian Customs where they could put their USD800 and they should ship the boots back to me.

      Here comes the lovely bit.  Although the goods are still airside, I was told the only way they would send them back to me was if I paid the USD800.  If I failed to do so the goods would be "destroyed", which meant that some feckin Indonesian customs person would be walking home in them.

      Complete and utter impasse.

      In the end I did a deal with my customer, he paid the USD800 in taxes etc and I refunded him USD750.  Once we got into this vortex, I was always going to lose at least USD800 (I had to pay to ship the things to Indonesia), but I was fecked if some sleazy, crooked customs official was going to wear my boots.....

      thanks given,,,buying and selling across different continents is a fekkin minefield,,and we wonder why ppl get fekked off ,,,oh to live in a non greedy environment

          the thing is though if the goods we all want/like/desire ie …IH/TFH/Samurai etc... were all readily available in the UK,,i mean in all the shopping centers,,not internet based stores,,,would the desire/intrigue for em still be as all consuming,,might not mean as much to some,,,but for me personally  it would be a living hell to see all them there desireable Japanese items readily available in the UK shops,,,imagine all them lowlife troggs/chavs suited and booted in IH.....would mean regular drive bys with Uzis

                      not so much a rant,,,more of a viewpoint/outlook,,,i have always been a kinda on the outside lookin in kinda guy,,,,looking the way i do///dressing the way i do,,call it the black sheep syndrome.As far back as i can remember,,i never wanted what society/parents were offering,,or ordering/telling ,,,never sat quite right with me,,,,,so it was two fingers up to the world,,and i chose my path,,,much to the disdain of my parents/relatives,,,,most ppl come to mention it,,,but fekk em,,,,i am who i am,,,and i dress accordingly.,,,and you know what,,,im now 44,,still a biker,,still liking loud obnoxious music,,still swilling ale/bourbon/fine malts,,,and i see all the ppl round where i live/visit,,and i have to laugh…....they all look the fekkin same,,,thats why this forum,and this one alone,,kinda feels like home...it provides,,and has provided me with the clothes that fit my personality,,and shown me other manufacturers,,,,,,,so fekk customs,,,,fekk following societys plan,,,,,live life like is yours,,,,coz there are way too many ppl out there that want to interfere ,,,,kind of an epiphany moment there 😞

                          Here's a rant I have been harbouring for ages.  When I did have my toes amputated, I wanted to keep them and go fishing with them.  Just imagine the headline  - "Man catches Pike on his own toe".  When I can round from the anaesthetic my toes had been destroyed - the bastards…..

                                          Seriously, that is bullshit. $40 is not too much to declare. Anyhow, my apologies. And 'yank" this…

                                            Agree.

                                            Getting charged a 70% customs fee is a bit obnoxious.
