"Forged by the hands of Hotta-san, a blackmith based in the Tosa region of Shikoku (the smallest of the four major Japanese islands). Hotta-san's father — who recently passed away — was bestowed with high honors by the Japanese government and was proclaimed one of the top craftsmen in the land and a valued bearer of centuries of tradition. Both father and son worked closely thus the ancient forging methods and exceedingly high-level of detail that has epitomized the famed conventions of Japanese knife and sword making continues to flourish." 🙂

It's a Best Made Co partnership. They're an axe company out of Brooklyn. I also have this blade and use it all winter long…

Given the generally lackadaisical level of security by NYC area TSA employees, I'd say your odds aren't that bad, actually.

Seriously? Pam nearly caused an international incident by taking a plastic cutlery knife through customs in her handbag, I thought we were off to Guantanamo Bay for a while.

Just chuck it nice and deep in your plane's wing. Make sure it holds. Pull it back out afterwards. Oh: the pilot's not an 2nd option… And I will not make any jokes about pulling it out of the pilot...

Interesting.  The last couple of times I went through Newark, they barely batted an eye at our extensive collection of semi-prohibited items.  Multiple bottles of formula, strollers, carseats, etc. went through with no issues.  We could have had anything in there.

Actually, we've flown back from Newark once and you are correct, they could not be bothered to look at us either.

JFK is a whole different ball park, there you are guilty until proven innocent. Interesting post script to that is that since we had Tommy I have found that Airport security staff are much nicer to us everywhere else we have been (Singapore, Tokyo, Kyoto, UAE, Qatar, Germany, Spain), everywhere except JFK.

I found that once I started wearing a business suit on trips I stopped getting searched.

yea, those are awesome.  Unfortunately, when we moved this last time, that was the only damn thing that got lost in transit.  None of my wife's shoes or other excess bullshit failed to make it.  Just my sharpmaker 😢

I've got three good Japanese stones, I've watched tons of YouTube sharpening videos, and I'm still scared I'm going to feck them up.

I find it ironic that they claim these knives are "hand crafted" but are stamped out a dozen at a time

Yeah, they should say, "hand crafted from blanks stamped 12 at a time." What impact does stamping the blanks have on long term quality? It would be cool if they had a "heritage" line that was all hand done, or better yet Damascus.  I'm just such a sucker for that beautiful leather grip…

Stamping can cause stress fractures in the steel

Also, I'm not sure that high end steels can be stamped. Ka Bar uses cheap steel

Most high end knives are hand cut, laser or water jet cut

Bark River Knives makes nice stacked leather handles. I've heard there are issues with their warranty service though
