I would say Giles looked less "glum" in the earlier photos than utterly confused. He's got this "What You Talkin' Bout Willis ??" look on his face. But yes, smiles always brighten a person's day.

It's a bit hard to tell from that angle.  Could you take pics from the front, back, and side at chest height?

Hm, looks like only minimal fading occurred for that long a period. And not high contrast, either. How often do you wear them and wash them? They still look good and I think they still have the potential to develop a more interesting fade (if that's what you want). Maybe you just have to change the wear/wash regimen.
