White's Boots
-
I gotcha. Whites has an option to double the mid sole i believe. I did a half composite, might go for a full sole when it comes time to resole them.

Hmm, after looking at the different leather patches at white's webpage, the dress brown is very close to black, not a traditional "brown" really, I'm leaning a bit towards the distressed brown, which is lighter, but is this leather treated with anything that makes it less durable? anyone tried that leather?

When I was deciding on my leather, I was going between Dress brown, dress black and black chromexcel. The dress leathers were more scratch resistant, and seemed a bit more durable, but they lacked character. That might have changed over time, but they just seemed ordinary when new. Thats why I went with cxl. its a tough leather, but it seems to be more adaptive, and take on characteristics quicker and easier. If I was buying Whites for a pure utility work boot, I probably would not go with cxl.

I put it up for people who don't like to wait and can afford not to. Good point on the collab. Although I personally would not go for a collab if it didnt offer anything different or unique. Those are just run of the mill While's with a brand stamped on the insole. Awesome boots, nonetheless, but I dont see the value in $200 mark up. But, if you would have asked me at week 3 if I would want to pay an extra $200 to get them in a few days, I might have been singing a different song

guys i wanna get myself a pair from buildaboot.com but i don't really know what specs to get and what to avoid.. could i get some assistance?

No problem. Leathers Ed will tell you to avoid chromexcel, and it does mark and scuff easier than most other leathers to be honest. I have oxfords in chromexcel and SDs in dress, of the two I would go for dress leather as it is much harder wearing and evolves beautifully. The exotic leathers are really a matter of your personal taste, but be warned that water buffalo is very thin and can split. Sole/ midsole A double midsole will obviously give you a little more height, but can look a little "clunky". A leather sole is very popular, but can be not practical if you live somewhere wet, like me. I favour a vibram half sole, and a single leather midsole for versatility. Style of boot is entirely down to personal preference, along with colour etc….
