Recently I've been on a huge soul & funk kick. Bill Withers is at the top of my list. One of the nicest voices out there. He is one of those artists that gets me there fairly quickly. If you don't know what gettin there is, I feel bad for you. Some select Withers' tunes:

Fela Kuti is the fucking man. Check anything by him and his band Africa. He was originally from Nigeria. He runs the show and plays sax and keys. The dude's Nigerian style is fly as shit too. I would call his sound World Groove Funk. This isn't some generic hippy funk shit…...

Along the soul tip, lately I've been enjoying Aloe Blacc, think theme song from the cheesy HBO show about making jeans but his music is pretty dope I think.
Check out the Futurebirds if your looking for something fun, band out of Athens GA and they got "it" for sure.
