variety is the spice of life.

i make me sick, must go looking for a fight, someone post something that annmoys me  😠

seriously, i like when folks do their own thing as i get to see what happens to the denim under circumstances that i may not put my own goods in.  i wash as needed, just cause i have a sensitive nose & i tend to get in some really groudy situations where not washing denim for an extended period of time could cause my nuts to turn green & fall off.  my nuts are my first priority in almost all matters.

there are no hard & fast rules, do you & flick your nose at all others  😉

It's folks that are new that usually worry about washing their jeans

I find it ironic that they search high and low for the best, toughest jeans in production and think that WATER will wreck everything

Personally I think if you're going to the effort of freezing your jeans, using Febreeze on your jeans, or leaving your jeans in the sun for a weekend to kill the smell, you're making your fading patterns as artificial as Diesel

        Common things you'll hear

        "I don't smell anything"

Scientific fact: you become acclimated to smells very quickly, and you can't smell your own body odor

        "Nobody complains I smell"

They're just being nice. It's like homeless people in NYC, you don't tell them they smell, you just move away from them

To be honest, when I see someone with genuine contrasty jeans, I try to stand a couple yards from them. I just don't know what kind of ungodly things they've done in their jeans since they last washed them eight months ago

I'm giving my Ih-634XHS their first soak in water and Woolite Dark today after the longest six weeks of my life. If anyone has a problem with that, I have a shiny spot on my ass for them to kiss

i´m planing on wearing my 634s-raw as much as possible and as long as possible without washing, so the creases can settle and fade away...as soon as i think it´s "enough" they will go in the washer and from then on get washed whenever i feel like it!

Btw, I nearly banned someone who asked "I'm not sure who puked on my jeans last night, but it's dry now and I don't think it smells, should I wash it?"

I didn't see them post after that, but if they did, I would either have left this forum or I would have banned them. I cannot be around the terminally stupid

I think this is the way to go as well. Couldn't imagine going a year without washing.

                  Agreed

When jeans are dirty enough with proteins and oils and salts, they start to feel "cold" when you first put them on. I wash my jeans shortly after that. Depends on how they're worn. I have a desk job, so unless I've been working on the house or vacationing in my jeans, I can usually go a few months before a wash. That being said, my 634XHS have seen Chicago, New York and NOLA in the last six weeks, lots of manual labor and hanging out in dive bars. Time for a wash

No matter how cool high contrast fades look, you don't look cool when you look/smell like a bum

My SExIH07BK's have never once touched water and I purchased them the first day they came out a few years ago. However, I do not wear them every day and they do not smell. I also have pairs that I wash regularly. I just depends on the pair, type of denim, how I feel, the rarity of the jean model, etc.

Photo is from awhile ago, but worn for a total of maybe a year and a half total over the last couple years

Machine washed a total 3 or four times, soaked in water and Woolite Dark as needed (prob every 4-8 weeks)

Still plenty dark, some crease fades

I don't get a lot of compliments on them, I don't mind the fading pattern as it reflects my life. If anyone has a problem with them, I have an alternate shiny spot on my ass to kiss

Yeah, it's a conundrum. Because anyone I could ask to tell me honestly if I smell or not spends an exorbitant amount of time with me anyway, and probably wouldn't be able to tell either

Ultimately, wash your jeans as Chuck Norris would

I mean if u wash ur jeans the indigo will stick better..if u wash its hard to get fades like when raw..Right?

fekk, even though I rotate approx 4 pairs all the time, about 3 weeks is longest for me without wash. I use 1 pair for 5-7 days in a row, and change, used pair gets aired 24-48 hours…

Indigo is not a permanent dye. It sits on the surface of the threads

When you wash, the indigo comes off the thread and either floats away or dries back on the surface of the thread or a different thread (redistributing)

When you don't wash, the loose indigo stays on the surface of the thread. Its loose, but it's still there. I believe (and it's only in theory) that when you don't wash for a really long time, a biofilm forms and the indigo is less likely to move for float off.

Long story short, so long as the creases are set, the white areas are going to be white no matter how often you wash. It's the dark areas that will change their level of color (hence the term "high contrast")

All this being said, biofilm is disgusting and I would rather wear cheap, crappy jeans than wear high end jeans with a sheen of dead bacteria and protein on it

Those are almost 3 years btw, Finn I'm with you, I would like those fades better if they were cleaner but he likes that look. It's a little bit the unbleached weft as well, and dirty, indigo settled?

I mean if u wash ur jeans the indigo will stick better..if u wash its hard to get fades like when raw..Right?

All this being said, biofilm is disgusting and I would rather wear cheap, crappy jeans than wear high end jeans with a sheen of dead bacteria and protein on it

someone will use this theory as a basis for a phd, he said protein

Random fact: I did my Master's Thesis in protein chemistry

I know violence is not the answer, I got it wrong on purpose
