        Just washed by 634S…

their so stiff and almost have a sandpaper feel.

seemed to get a bit of shrinkage too; especially in the seat area?

time to get them back in the battle again

i'm a little bit shy, a bit strange, and a little bit manic

I grabbed bagley's size 40 634S for my dad. It's a great starter pair for him. He's 63 and super stubborn. He refuses to wear anything but Wranglers, in a carrot cut. I don't know if many companies make a 40 waist and 9 hem, besides wrangler. I'll post some pics of him, once I get them in. Slowly but surely I'm getting my family and friends into IH.  My next fam purchases are some IH-106 for my mom and some IH-555 for my bro.

Finally snagged a pair of these.  They have stretched out a bit since I have been wearing them around the apartment.  Im curious about a couple things.  Where are they made?  I assume and hope Japan, but its not specific.  Second, my 33's measured 32 inches.  This differs from other measurements floating around.  Any idea's why, or is this just how it goes?  Im pretty sure based on everyones experience they will stretch even more, which def. would be a good thing.

They're made in Japan, don't worry.  All IH denim (and virtually everything else IH) is made in Japan.

Not sure why your size 33 jeans measure 32", unless it's because you're measuring slightly differently than IH does.  Check the "How We Measure" thread to verify that you're doing it the same way.  That said, each pair will vary a little, and even sanforized denim will shrink a bit when washed and dried, so they might be a tad smaller than the tagged size if you've run them through the washer & dryer.  They will stretch, though, don't worry.  I've seen people stretch theirs as much as 2 inches in the waist.

yea, these are brand new and measure a solid 32", marked 33".  Its not a huge deal because they will stretch, but it kinda renders the whole point of posting measurements on sites that sell the brand useless, unless this is a one-off situation.  For the record, I purchased these at Self Edge today because they are local to me, and their measurements differ from mine by almost an entire inch  ???

Well it would be a one-off situation because as you say publishing incorrect measurements would be pointless and as we go to a lot of time and effort to verify and publish those measurements it would also be bloody stupid…

I have never seen a pair of IH differ from the average published measurements by as much as an inch.  Either it is a rogue pair that are mistagged (possible but very rare - so rare that until today I have never seen one, but Haraki does say it is possible), or you are measuring incorrectly.  You say you are not, therefore it must be a rogue pair - sorry.  But as I presume you went into SE in person all that really matters is you got a pair that fit, and yes hey will stretch an inch.

It should be noted that Iron Heart and Self Edge measure the waist differently.
                      Self Edge method:

                      Iron Heart method:

I did a quick measure of my pair of size 33 634S using both methods, and I came up with 32 inches in the waist via SE's way, and about 33.5 inches via IH's way.  Check the pictures below:

Quality of the pics sucks, I know, but it should be enough to show that measurements can vary depending on all sorts of factors.  The bottom line is that, as Giles said, you got to try them on in Self Edge and got a pair that fits, and that they will stretch a bit if you need them to.

I didn't know that SE used that method for waist measuring (I thought is was only the thigh they did differently to IH).

I'm now a little more edu-mercated, thanks Chris!

Further to that, I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't  measure waist size the IH way. When you have both sides of the waistband pulled together it completely eliminates any possibility of fucking up the measurement.

You know, I very well could be doing it wrong, as Im not used to dealing with denim this thick.  I did it both ways and got pretty similar measurements.  But like I said, its not a huge deal for me, as they fit pretty good.  A bit snugger in the waist than comfortable, but thankfully the waist should stretch.

Yeah, that's why I always check everyone's "How We Measure" section, and if a retailer doesn't have one, I check their return policy.  And in this respect especially, a picture really is worth a thousand words.

Now is an appropriate time for me to say thanks to Giles, Paula and the IH Japan crew for taking the time to make such a comprehensive measuring guide.  I've used it multiple times to verify that my technique is as identical as possible.

3 days since purchase and 3 days of wearing.  Each day becomes more and more pleasurable.  Im sure this forum needs another person gushing about their jeans, so I will oblige ;D.

Im in love with them.  Understated at first glance, but when you get up close, you notice the details.  The fit was snug at first, but has loosened up a bit each day to the point now where they are almost to a perfect fit, but not quite.  Probably another week will net perfect results.  But its how they feel each morning when I put them on that really stands out.  The heavy denim is like armor, and I feel secure in them.  Just the sound of the heavy fabric moving against itself when being put on is great.
Funny story, the first day I had them on, the buttons were still super stiff.  I had to use the restroom, so when I got to the urinal, I ripped the button fly open, and the guy washing his hands did a double take because the sound the buttons made echoed through the bathroom.  Sounded like muffled gunshots!

That being said, I have a problem. How do you get the cuffed jeans to stay down. I have them second cuffed and the second cuff keeps rolling up...please help

Could always hem them to get rid of the excess fabric.  Might help them hang a bit more naturally.  Doug's solution is probably best, though.
