I realize that this is likely the polar opposite of what you fellas like, but ever since I found this photo of a vintage Viberg lace to toe Army boot, I have wondered what a cleaned up/refined version at a 6in-8in height would look like (similar to everyone elses lace to toe? maybe not). I think it has a great profile, and not as bulbous as other brands lace to toe offerings. I believe that I originally found it on the Viberg site a long time ago.

These are beautiful, not sure how they could be improved for a colab?
I'd say do a black pair with just the top part where the stitching is a strip of duck, do some black on black with the orangish leather sole with black rubber beneath, that way the duck and the leather soul compliment one another. subtle and delicious.
personally i like the wingtip or cap toe versions of the service boot best, i feel less is more, you guys have already done 2 pair of denim sided viberg's, why not take a more subdued approach.

also,
i really dig the short shift boots, if you did a pair of black / black (say suede and full grain calf) with brass buckles and the pull straps with some duck accents. and once again a leather sole with the black rubber (pardon my lack of nomenclature) also in the heel having the piece of black in the middle really adds some nice contrast, once again it'll compliment the duck accents.
