Thanks from me too Shane, I'm going to look into Williamsburg for October on airbnb. Lando recommended them to me yesterday, and I was wondering about areas outside Manhatten  🙂

Made in England, clothed in Japan, fed in America and drunk in Belgium !

Yeah you should. Williamsburg is so easy to get into the city from and it will certainly be cheaper. One of us can give you the exact details on traveling to and from the city if you decide to stay in BK.

I know that Pam is going to ask me this question, so I have to ask you guys, is it a safe area for walking around with a 6 year old? We've been to New York many times, but always stayed in hotels, and always near Times Square (tourist mecca).

I would say it is MUCH safer than Times Square. And NYC in general is not unsafe. Pretty much the opposite of what you would think.

I'd say, as a whole, Williamsburg is more safe than Times Square. I live right on the edge of safe and possibly unsafe. And it's really only slightly sketchy super late at night. And by unsafe I mean if you're a super drunk girl stumbling around my street a bum or another drunk person might fuck with you. But that can really happen anywhere in the city. That's just my opinion.

Thanks guys, and absolutely no offence meant. If you guys were to ask me about where I lived, I would say that it is a shit hole, and you should visit somewhere (anywhere) else  😉

Hey, no problem here. And certainly no offense taken. Fair question to ask when traveling abroad, especially with a little one. And something tells me that Tommy could kick the shit out of a good 90% of the male population in "BillyBurg", seriously!

If you need one of us to go check it out or arrange to pick up the keys before you come into town, just holler! And double check the address with Urb via PM to make sure it is easy to get to and from the subway etc.

I'd say you're pretty much good to go anywhere in Manhattan, unless you start to get to the outskirts of where "normal" people go

I'd stay away from areas like Morningside Heights, Alphabet City, The Bowery and if you can see the Hudson, we're too far from the beaten track

For the most part, unless you're out late at night, you'll be absolutely fine

Jody likes to plan our trips based on where she wants to eat, so I should have a restaurant list of where we'll be a few weeks in advance if you guys would like to join us

                                            Amazing images  😃

When I first visited NYC 12 years ago, I told my cousins grandparents about the trip and they were horrified. Apparently, they had been to New York for a week in 1980, and arrived at the Port Authority Bus Terminal on a Greyhound from Miami. When they got off the bus a cop asked them where they were going, and as it turned out their Hotel was about 4 blocks away, the cop told them to take a cab as they would not make it to their hotel with their luggage intact if they walked….they barely left the hotel for their entire trip  :-\

When I first arrived in New York in 2000, with two other English guys, we did not honestly know what to expect. We stayed in the Belvedere on West 48th (which was ok), and in the months running up to the trip I had researched all I could about the city, where everything was, and how far away it was, so I was fairly confident that I knew what I was doing. We arrived at our hotel from JFK at around 10pm, called at the convenience store on the corner of the street (The Green Emporium, great place), and went back to our rooms to chill out and relax. The next morning we woke early and turned the TV news on, the first headline on NY1 was "Two Police Officers Shot Dead In a Raid on a Crack House in Harlem", my friends asked me how far away that was, I told them about three miles.....they didn't want to leave the hotel either  😞

However, we did venture out and found that NYC is an amazing place, full of life, and only experienced if you get out and work with the cities unique rhythm. I have been back 6 times since, it was where I got engaged to Pam, where we bought our wedding rings, and where Tommy developed his love for Batman, Superman, and Ghostbusters (the New York Public Library), and we cannot wait to go back in October to meet old friends and new.
