The 50L back focuses too often when wide open. Sent in a few to Canon to have them fixed. I'd say the 85L is the best lens but it's not wide enough for my everyday needs.

When I shoot fullframe (d700), the Sigma(lux) 50 1.4 is my go-to-lens. Similarly, 80 % of what I do on the nex-7 is 35/1.2 (aka, 50mm equivalent). That said, my most used duo-kit is a 35 and a 85mm. Covers 95 % of what I would possibly need

Oh, no doubt about it. IMO Sigma comes out on top with the best 50 though - Canon is in need of an update as I have heard it not lasting a lot of people even a year of use. Actually many people on the photo forums I belong to recommend against getting the Canon 50 1.4.

The 85 definitely is a special lens, it's not very wide but it produces some insane results!

Ok, so I bought a tripod about a week ago, and I needed a head for it. So over on a photography forum I belong to I picked up a Markins M10 ball head. Jesus, I love the thing! Then again I came from a Piece of shit $50 tri-pod, so what do I expect?!
