      @Lucifer:

      Great pics guys!

I agree on the manual-controls + prime thing. I use a nex-7 these days, and on fullframe (i use a d700 for that) I love a dual lens setup with 35/1.4 and 85/1.4. Hard to replicate the look I get from those on a smaller sensor. ach!

This is why I want a FF camera. If all goes to plan I won't have to sell off my 35L so this way I can use a 5D MK II, 85L and 35L.

        look into the Fuji x10

think i will give her a test drive & see if she works for me.  might also try to start reading up on photography a little more,  yeah i say i'm going to every few months, but i have incentive as the sbg world tours are going to show up any day now.

The x100 I would personally not recommend as a first camera (note: I have no experience with it..). But I think the best way now a days to figure how to work with a camera and learn on a camera is a DSLR. I'm not saying the x100 is bad but I don't know if that's a beginners camera. I would personally want to know how Aperture, ISO, shutter speed all correlate with each other before buying that camera. If you don't know what any of those are or how to properly set up a camera with those settings I would definitely look into investing in a moderately beginner DSLR + 50mm prime or 35mm.

Anyways as for me.. I have made two HUGE purchases over the past few days. First, I'm getting a 5D MK II finally! :D!
second, I'm getting a Gitzo 3340L, so I'm super psyched. Unfortunately I got rid of the 35L to get the 5DII, but I was going to have to sell it in the long run since come this fall I have to get a 70-200 to take sports shots for my school.

Possibly,  let me speak to Paula.  She has the G10 and may want to upgrade to the G12….

I could do either the 10 or the 12. I am sure she wants the 12.

Not to kill your buzz but I hope you didn't pay retail for that. Probably the worse time ever to buy a 5D markii new. The price might drop $300-400 this weekend. Anyways, have fun with the new camera.

I don't really like to get involved in this thread. As is seems there are plenty of guys who think they know everything. You don't really need another one.

I use a Canon G12 for fun and a Canon 5D markii/50mm L for work. I can rent/borrow pretty much anything photo gear wise so owning a ton of camera gear really doesn't matter much to me. You can pretty much accomplish everything you need to with 5Dm2/50mm. Almost every other professional photographer I've ever worked with have had that setup, or an older equivalent.

I do like the newest Nikon bodies though, they shoot well in low/no light.

No buzz kill lol. I already knew that. If you want to look at it from a technical standpoint I bought it for about $1800 w/ I think ~5k shutter clicks. I'm planning on keeping this for the next year or so, so I'll get enough usage out of it. I'm looking more so to invest in a 200mm prime for basketball and football season next year.

Also, I can't personally see a 50L being worth the price it sells for. I've owned it but it was too damn soft wide open, and compared to a Sigma 50 1.4 it definitely beats out the canon, especially for the price. That being said I did love the 50L though.

I actually think the Canon 50 1.4 that cost like $380 is better than the Canon 50L. I've had this conversation a few times with other photographers and they agree. The 50L back focuses too often when wide open. Sent in a few to Canon to have them fixed. I'd say the 85L is the best lens but it's not wide enough for my everyday needs.

                                        When I shoot fullframe (d700), the Sigma(lux) 50 1.4 is my go-to-lens. Similarly, 80 % of what I do on the nex-7 is 35/1.2 (aka, 50mm equivalent). That said, my most used duo-kit is a 35 and a 85mm. Covers 95 % of what I would possibly need 🙂

Seize the day and don't you cry.

Oh, no doubt about it. IMO Sigma comes out on top with the best 50 though - Canon is in need of an update as I have heard it not lasting a lot of people even a year of use. Actually many people on the photo forums I belong to recommend against getting the Canon 50 1.4.

The 85 definitely is a special lens, it's not very wide but it produces some insane results!

                                          Here's a few from today from the 5D2 + 85L combo.
