Yes, but a little moisturizer should bring it back to pretty close.

The colors "fade", and also pretty fast IMO. That's normal.

Maybe our tattoo artists want to chime in here?

Not really into bringing my work life over here, but started this back piece on an old client the other day (it will continue on down to the back of the thigh) and realized I got a good shot of the Busters patch in there…

Looking for ideas on how to cover this up or incorporate it into something else. It was my first tattoo when I was 18. Don't dislike it, just want something different there. It's on my left shoulder and it's about 3-4 in height. Ideas? The shape is throwing me off. Would obviously have to be something circular or spiral in fashion, and don't really want to do the cliche barbed wire-esque stuff.

How are prices on tattoos in the different areas of the world you guys live in?

I'm planning a full back piece, and something like that would cost me somewhere from 4500 USD and up in Norway.

If competent tattoo artists are cheaper elsewhere, travelling and lodging for a week or two might be worth it.

Why not try to find the best, or at least your favorite artist, not just a "competent" one?

It's a long term investment and I personally would seek out the best quality, not value…

And I understand aslo Kat's answer.

But still it would be nice to know, as is there any reason to search (certain) artist
abroad, or stick with your "old" one for example.

agreed with Kat, I went to my favorite tattoo artist and it cost quite a bit.  4500 for a  full back sounds like a steal 🙂

I'm certainly willing to pay for quality, but as an example, a pair of levi's in Oslo would cost me up to 250-350 USD. That does not necessarily make them IH quality, so I was mostly trying to find an international IH which could compete with the local levi's, if you catch my drift 🙂

I have traditionally used www.kunstmedpuls.no which are very nice people and very competent, but I'm not sure the dot-dot-dot-technique would fit a larger piece.

(they made the one on my right shoulder:

Guess then it would really depend on the style/design you're going for.
And Kit's right, depending on what you're getting, 4500 for a full back isn't bad…
                                          Good luck!

Kind of a cliche, but have wanted it since 2006:

What I want is a dual tree. The right part would have to be "norse" in styling and incorporate the "norse" tattoo I already have on that side, the left part would have to be "semitic" in styling and incorporate the magen david I have on that side. I have tried to sketch it out myself, hard to get it right though. Have to be quite large to make the design work I suspect. If this sounds 100 % idiotic, let me know and I'll just try to think of something else.. 😛
