nope, not really, but i think the fascination with OD in general is akin to the way alot of things spread & grow. the same can be said about raw denim as well as flannel and any other trend in any section of the market.
just look at the amount of folks that now make CPO style shirts with side pockets
-
I can't believe you are discussing this at 7:30am MM. It's like I never went to sleep. Shall I start a trend/ fad/ hypbeasting thread for you all to continue this discussion?
-
naw man
i'm just continuing cause folks keep bringing up my comments. apologies for the major derailment & i'll even put on my roy ducks & get a flick up in the next week or so to make-up for my bad conduct.
to the penalty box i go

No no no, I was being serious. This is obviously a topic that continues to come up. I just figured there should be a place to discuss it. If this was an IH product thread I would have already split the topic. Let me know if you all want a new thread for it. No penalty box for you sir, just busting chops. And it is 7:30am, why do you have so much energy? -
i'm up from 00-dark-thirty getting myself together.
been trying to go to the gym early in the a.m. instead of waiting for the new year to say i'm going to turn over a new leaf.
it has givien me bundles of energy & has made me into a new(ish) person.

Wish we lived closer as I need someone to motivate/ go with. Just to keep this thread on point, anyone rock their Roy boxers to the gym? ???

od should mean over dyed, but is instead becoming overdone. of course just the way i see it & of course i don't make-up the entire market so you should be safe with OD all you fans of OD
maybe I've missed the definition of overdye at some point along the way but.. I'm pretty sure overdye is essentially garment dyeing something that has already been dyed. 'Double Indigo' trousers and those left field chinos use blue warp/weft dyed yarns - meaning the dyeing process occurs long before the garment is made. (AKA not overdyed
)
That being said, there are some companies out these offering OD products (In almost every case I've seen, indigo warp/naturalish weft jeans with a black fugitive pigment) just like IH does. So in essence, yes, it is still a bit overdone but I like to think not every black fugitive pigment dye is the same - I'm sure the recipe can vary in creating such a dye. IH's so called recipe for their black fugitive pigment die is different from everybody elses. The distinction i make is that while somebody may be doing an OD jeans they aren't doing a true IH OD jean.

regarding the price discussion, the new price of the ROYs is 335$
-
^^^^
that's cool, i'm sure fans will be happy to hear this news.
-
We've received quite a few inquiries about the price of the new Roy jeans.
Roy's price to Self Edge has gone up and therefore our price has gone up, the new price is $335.
Roy has stated that not only did the denim itself cost considerably more than past runs but this jean was more labor intensive due to a few extra details not found on past jeans.EDIT: The tendency to want to compare the price of a product from Roy to other brands we sell will be there, but please refrain. It's hard to compare a product like roy's to almost anything else we (or anybody else for that matter) carries because of the unique nature behind the production of it.
Also, he's having a little leather patch contest, more info to be posted to his own website shortly.

I don't understand this: "This is the first time in over three decades that Cone has produced an unsanforized fabric for anybody".
Is is supposed to say, that the denim is special because it's exclusively made for Roy? or is it special because it's unsanforized,(which then doesn't fit to LVC being made of cone denim)? -

Is is supposed to say, that the denim is special because it's exclusively made for Roy? or is it special because it's unsanforized,(which then doesn't fit to LVC being made of cone denim)?Prob a question better asked in the Roy or SE thread on sufu. Response time and correct info will be much better.

Ok, just thought you'd know and my english might be the reason I couldn't understand it.

I cannot answer that question as I do not follow either of those threads and am not well informed on the inner workings at Cone. To be honest, your English is better than most on this board so I wouldn't worry about asking the question on Sufu. Report back here with the answer if you get one!

I just read that even Paul T was confused as well and asked a similar question yesterday. So maybe Kiya or Roy will answer later. oh, and thanks for the nice compliment

Since the early 1970's Cone Mills has only produced unsanforized fabric for Levi's due to a contract with Levi's. Anybody else using unsanforized fabric from Cone bought their fabric from a third party and it was essentially leftovers from what was produced for Levi's.
Roy's new fabric is the first time in over thirty years where Cone has made unsanforized fabric for anybody, a custom run to their specifications, other than Levi's. Levi's uses a proprietary "shrink to fit" process where the denim is treated post-weaving, so technically it's not loomstate, but it's still unsanforized. -
Roy's Jeans - The Cone Mills Project - Straight & Narrow Fits
Roy Slaper is back with his first denim jean release in many months. This long overdue set of jeans is made up of a custom fabric from Cone Mills made exactly to Roy's specs. This is the first time in over three decades that Cone has produced an unsanforized fabric for anybody, and therefore we feel that this is history in the making.
The denim is a loomstate unsanforized indigo denim that clocks in at 13oz per square yard in it's raw state. The fabric has a slight gray-cast to it and feels far heavier than it's stated weight due to it's weave and loomstate nature.
The jeans themselves come in two fits, both a slim and a straight leg. Both silhouettes are slightly modified from past iterations of Roy's straight and slim fits.Never content with just "doing another run", Roy has improved and tweaked everything surrounding the production of these jeans. The stitching of the body is even finer and more accurate and we love the fully lined back pockets and coin pocket; i don't believe we've ever seen a lined coin pocket on a pair of jeans before. The rear pocket hems now have a hand-done welt in them, mimicking the vintage style belt-loops found on many of the best Japanese brands. And last but not least the back pockets have been slightly reduced in size from past versions.
Jeans from Roy don't come often and we can't keep them in stock as long as we'd like, so if you've been waiting for a pair, now is the time.
Both these new jeans will go on sale at all three Self Edge stores at noon (local time) on Thursday December 22nd, the jeans will also go on sale in our online store at 9am (PST) the same day. Check the online store for more photos, measurements, and far far more specifications than you can possibly need for a pair of jeans.
