        @FurattoHeddo:

How to convert ounces per yard square to grams per square metre?

        1 oz/yd²= 33.905748 g/m²

This is what I mean. Some materials (espeicaly in Europe) are weighed / measured as grammes per meter squared rather than ounces. For example I have a wax jacket made of a cotton that is 360 g/m2.

So, I was working out what 21oz was in g/m2. I think, multiplying it by 33.905 should work it out. Thanks for that! 🙂

Regarding the actual production (cutting, sewing, pressing, etc) of an IH jean:

Approx. how long time does one take, and does an IH take longer because of a more difficult process?

Do you use the same machines and needles as ordinary denim?

Are they done in-hose or is production outsourced, and are all garments produced at the same factory?

i'll take a stab at it but obviously G would be the one to give a definite answer.

it would take much longer for a new design/fabric but once they get used to it and a rhythm going it wouldn't take that much longer than normal. If your comparing to mass production say levis then yes it takes much much longer.

Do you use the same machines and needles as ordinary denim?
no because these are not ordinary denims. 🙂 some machine would be the same but ones to do the lap seams and bar tack would need to be quite a bit beefier machine

Are they done in-hose or is production outsourced, and are all garments produced at the same factory?
not many brands have their own manufacturying so no its outsourced and no, jean makers dont make the shirts. good makers specialise in one area.

Is it possible to move the [Quote, Modify, Remove] buttons to the bottom right/end of a post?

i think it would be quicker/ better when someone reads a post and want to quote it directly, he could just stay at the bottom and hit the button after reading…
otherwise he always needs to scroll up to the top again (imagine a picture heavy post!) and yeah...you know the end of the story.

                  My turn:

There is only one factory that we are comfortable with making our 21oz and heavier jeans.  And in that particular factory, there is only one line that will actually sew the heavy stuff.  It comprises totally of vintage machines, modern machines (even pretty good copies) just will not sew 21oz plus denim.  We can get about 120 pairs of jeans off that line per day.  Obviously IH makes nothing like that, so it is also used for other brands, all domestic brands and nothing heavier than 14oz ( a good line can sew anything, a bad line only light stuff).

Haraki and I talked over the last few days about the possibility of buying the line and operating it ourselves.  Haraki is worried that the younger generation in Japan do not want to become seamstresses and the people who currently work in the factory are all getting old.  He thinks that if he owns the line, he can better protect the future.  Needless to say, a sentiment I am 100% behind.

                  Super exciting times…....

And I think you rather easily can recruit quite a few younger people eager to be IH seamstresses on this forum.

Does anyone know where I can get some really good leather boot laces?
