    • RE: Repairs & Modifications

      Pity, I have a pair of overdyed 666s I've not worn in two years  because they need repaired. 1st repair was by the denim doctor, (who did what I didn't want him to do and no better than local places, would not use him again). Keeping them for when I can eventually take them to Self Edge for some darning type repairs.

      @peregrine:

      @IndigoNoob:

      @peregrine those stacks are lookin great man. How tall are you and did you hem them? I'm struggling to decide how much to take off mine or if I even should

      Thanks. I'm 5'7" with a 30.5" inseam. They have not been hemmed. This pair measured 36.5" pre soak and shrunk down to just under 35" post hot soak. After some wear the length is now at 33" (1.5" from the cuff and the rest hidden in the combs). Perfect length for stacks.

      I'm about the same height and inseam and snagged a pair of tag 36 with 35.9 (and corresponding) measurements but mine look way wider in the leg even after a hot soak. Maybe I need to wear them in the tub and let them dry on me for the next one. Yours look way better than mine.

      I hot soaked mine today, not much indigo in the water afterwards but while I wore them before the soak they shed indigo like crazy where I sat down. I'll wear them for a few days once they dry by tomorrow.

      @Giles:

      @stevehm:

      and am going back to what I loved in college.

      Me too.  Fishing and drinking…..(My first degree was Fishery Science, but I got chucked off that - probably because of the drinking.......)

      [emoji23]
      Excellent choices, but Giles you're a denim/clothes geek and have turned something you love into a way of making money. You run a fantastic business and part of that is your passion for the products. With time to do other stuff you love doing, like drinking and fishing. You're living the dream, as they say and whilst this isn't always easy it's extremely rewarding.

      I have met and come across many people who have managed to do this in third wave coffee, in food, in cycling and motorcycling and all sorts of other stuff I'm geeky about as a consumer. My partner is a journalist, she saved up her pocket money when she was twelve, bought a typewriter, taught herself to touch type and made a career doing what she loves.

      I also have lots of friends who are not passionate about their jobs, they are extremely unfulfilled and unhappy.

    • RE: Change of Career

      I can relate to what most of you have been saying. I am now 50 and am going back to what I loved in college. I spent my post school years and most of my twenties not knowing what to do. Was nearly thirty before settling down to a mental health nursing career and having a family. Didn't nurse for long before getting into policy for a decade, then into research based jobs. I chucked in office work in January to retrain as a psychotherapist. It's the best decision I think I've ever made. Partner thinks I look ten years younger since I stopped work. If there's something you love doing, just do it if you can take the risk. My kids are grown up and I no longer have to be tied to a monthly pay check. Every day now I feel so lucky to be in this position.

      Took this last Tuesday evening. My 2016 Roadster with its swanky new Roland Sands exhaust and Rough Crafts air cleaner. Think the le pera seat is too bulky looking but it's way more comfortable than the stock seat.

      There's the last XL back in stock. Had to return it as I had sleeve issues. Think I need a 25" or at most a 26" sleeve in a jacket. It's sooooo beautiful, it took real effort to return it.

      I foresee a Tag 36 and a hot soak for me…. maybe.

      If I do pull the trigger on these it will be interesting to see how they fade compared to the 777 25s I got last summer which are only now breaking in.

      After I got my upper arms done nearly nine years ago I finally got Jason to finish my left arm these past few weeks. He's also an IH fan (19oz 555s) and even visited you guys in Gosport.

      He has his own place now round the corner form where I live in Edinburgh. He's fantastic and his studio is awesome. Go and visit:http://www.insidertattoo.com

      Tool roll

      (Specifically, something small that could take maybe 4 small spanners, a small 3/8 ratchet and about 4 sockets. And a pocket for small stuff).

      Either waxed canvas or duck with leather strap.

      Not sure how popular they'd be, though.

      Soon 🙂

      Soon but yet another cut with nothing within reach of a 35 waist. I am cursed with my sizing. Short, plumpish and marginally annoyed.

      @MP:

      …..I haven't had a chance to ride a Roadster yet, but that's the other Harley on the list.  The Triumph Bobber is another interesting proposition, which should be on sale soon. I sat on one at Moto Expo and it felt pretty comfortable.

      I traded in my street triple last October for the Roadster. The street triple was a thief magnet, my first one got stolen after 10 weeks and the replacement had thee new ignition barrels after theft attempts in three years. Also the battery was a pain for draining after a few days not riding. The Harley has had no tampering whatsoever. I think the keyless ignition, alarm and immobiliser makes then not worth the hassle of theft when locked up to something solid. No issues at all in the months since buying it and now has a natty Roland sands exhaust and rough crafts air filter fitted (as well as a new seat to replace the very uncomfortable stock seat). Harley's are very reliable these days and the only downside (on the wallet) is the massive amount of aftermarket parts available; you can personalise/modify/upgrade them to your heart's content.
