    • RE: Random questions to which you seek an answer

      Thanks gents. Interesting point of views about what "raw denim" means and what its real value is. I guess as a marketing term, it's at least an indication that the products using so-called raw denim are qualitatively different from non-raw denim. What that means… Well that's the opportunity to make a statement. And to creatively differentiate. Selvedge does offer an "almost vintage" quality -- and the colorful selvedge stitching is distinctive. The craft of making these denims also seem a vast improvement over the much less expensive alternatives.

      Sizing -- interesting to know it's about the thread -- and not applied post weaving. The materials used in the sizing may only be of interest to a data driven individual, but I find it useful and not simply trivia. Starch traditionally was the byproduct of washing the starch from wheat, and vital wheat gluten (a mainly wheat gluten based flour) was a popular product out of Australia -- used for meat-like high protein meat substitutes. For those without gluten sensitivites.

      Any information about formaldehyde on the denim used? Doesn't smell like there's much formaldehyde. Does no one really care?

    • RE: Random questions to which you seek an answer

      I couldn't find the answer to these question on the forum, but if here, please let me know the link or thread where I can find the answer to these 2 questions:

      Is IH denim treated with starch as a sizing? And if so, what's the source of the starch? Corn, wheat, etc.?

      Has the IH denim been treated with formaldehyde, as are most conventional denim jeans? If not, why isn't this mentioned? And vice versa? Seems like an important distinction between raw and non-raw denim.

      Thanks.

    • RE: John Lofgren (Speedway)

      Beautiful botos @jay-cy! How does the heel design affect your experience of the fit of the Clinch boots? And I wonder who – if anyone - has non-engineer boots of these 2 brands and can compare the fit and experience of walking in them.

    • RE: John Lofgren (Speedway)

      Any thoughts among experienced owners wearers of both Lofgren and Clinch boots? The fit and workmanship is so very close – just that there are fewer people involved in the cobbling of the Clinch boots. But for long distance walking and extensive wearing, have you noted any comfort or support in one brand compared to the other? I know they are all at the top of their quality -- my Lofgrens M43s are fantastic. What would I notice if I had a pair of Clinch boots (not necessarily engineers) different than the Lofgrens? Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

      @Jordonf9:

      I'll prob wash mine in 2-3 weeks. With the kids food droppings and the road grim on my car rubbing on the denim, will need to wash em earlier then normal. I almost never wash my denim, haha.

      And when you do wash these denims, what will you use for soap? Dr. Bronners? Only water? Soap nuts?

      Hemming… If you had these denims hemmed outside of the IHUK shop, what did you do? Chain stitched or not? Thread color to match the rest or other? Cuffed or straight?

      Amazing fabric. Remarkable cut & fit. Photos to come.

    • RE: IHSH-208-IND - Indigo Kersey Western Shirt

      Got mine today and like others – I'm impressed. Fabric, color, fit, drape -- all together a real win for the IH product line. I wonder if they could find another version of the kersey with wool blended with the cotton like the original kersey textile material. Would be great to have a cotton/wool blend with some of the shirts or overshirts. or even just wool. But no points off of this new shirt. It totally lives up to and exceeds the promise. Another win in my opinion.

      I may be missing something obvious, but I cannot see an original estimate for availability. Was there one initially provided? I know patience is a virtue, but I'd like to be able to prepare for the colder weather sooner. Thanks.

    • RE: Iron Heart Products - What do you think we should make?

      @gaseousclay:

      @jake77:

      Not apparel, but what about shaving items? Could be a cool Jaoanese-style kamisori razor, a more conventional straight edge, or just a tallow based shaving soap. After shave lotion or balm could also be a great addition.

      I don't know that shaving stuff fits with the IH aesthetic. I've got quite a few DE razors, shave soaps, etc., and the competition is pretty fierce imo. Plus, nobody shaves much around here  😃

      Agreed that the competition is tight, but isn't it also tight for denims? Or watches? Even bearded gents often do a little beard trim. And with the quality of products/ingredients available in Japan, the quality of hammered steel for knives (or kamisori or straight edged razors), the tradition of hair, face, and body care (ever been to a traditional Japanese bath house?), this could be a real win/win – for the maker and the users. My 20 cents, but I too have a decent sized collection of DE razors & etc. Getting another, and a superior one is basically what we're always in search of.

    • RE: IHWE-PO - Iron Heart Int'l x Wesco® - 8" Rough-Out Burlap Pull-On Boot

      I'm wearing mine with the default design. They fit fine within my IH denims. And although they did take about 20 days to begin to break in, they are very comfortable and totally in sync with the values and quality that make Iron Heart (or Wesco) the brand of choice. Well done and excellent choice Giles & team. And great work on the construction of this excellent boot.

    • RE: Kentaurus - Cologne

      This shop is THE place to shop with in Cologne (Koln). There are actually 2 shops on the same street. One specializing in denim and work wear – great collection/selection of IH duds. The other shop, 50 meters done the street, has more classy, business wear. But of the same quality as the work wear shop. Great staff. Great items -- of all types -- including Viberg boots. And closed on Sundays.

      I too received the blue/grey shirt – the sizing is slightly larger than the original burgundy or orange versions. Fit is great. Fabric is fantastic. Highly recommended.

    • RE: IHSH-179 - "The Kanreki Shirt" 6oz Check Flannel Single Yoke Western Shirt - Red

      @Giles:

      130 shirts inbound
      113 unique forms filled out (about 15 of you completed more than once)
      113 emails sent
      99 emails opened

      And if I didn't receive an email even though I filled out a form? or was I one of the multiple filled and therefore got nixed?

    • RE: IHT-1600-WHT - 11oz Cotton Knit Crew Neck Short Sleeved T-Shirt - White

      Got my black T and like others have stated – it's badass. The fabric and feel is fantastic. Two small gripes however -- the neck is quite tight/small. Any good reason for that? Additionally, the shirt bottom seems too square -- at least it's not the same taper as most of my other Ts. This is not a big deal, but if you have any excess around your middle, it's going to show.

      Nonetheless this is a shirt to get and enjoy.for years to come.

    • RE: IH-717-BLK - Black 9oz Selvedge Mercerised Cotton Chinos

      Got my pair of 33s 2 weeks ago. Wearing them happily in 55 degree weather as well as 85 degrees. Comfortable, well-fitting, excellent fabric and a great pair of pants all around. Had the mercerized khaki chinos in 34, thinking they'd shrink more for my 33" waist – not as much as I had thought (or maybe I got thinner  ;D). But the blacks in 33 fit better and shrunk just right. YMMV.

      Highly recommended. Get them while they last -- IMHO!
