What's the best way to roll-up the sleeves so that they stay rolled up and looks clean.

Just received mine in the mail. Beautiful colorway - not too loud. This is my first heavy flannel - what is the general census on the first wash? Should I wash it before wearing, or wear it first and only wash once they start to get dirty or smelly?
